Trying to find a way to disallow users from entering an inactive employee ID in the Time Card Entry screen. Goal is to reduce inaccurate data entry.

It appears I could disable the field forcing users to click the spyglass to open the lookup window which can be filtered to exclude inactive employees. However, forcing users to go through that lookup sequence is a punitive and inefficient. Typing the Emp ID in the primary window is much kinder.

Was hoping to look up the entry when the user tabs out of the field employee ID field and check if it's active. If the entry is not active then present a dialog message box.

Perhaps the VBA field-lost-focus trigger could call a SQL procedure or function. How would you recommend solving this issue?

What you want to do is use the "Enter Time on Behalf" feature and then do not assign Inactive Employees to that Code. If your Timecard people can all enter time for any and all employees, then you make just one "Enter Time on Behalf" Code and assign the same Code to all your Timecard entry people.
The downside is someone still has to maintain this Code and it seems that should be the same person as whoever makes Employees Inactive. If they do this...all is well...if they fail to maintain the Code....well you can test it out easy enough and see.
The alternate is to create  a Timecard Restriction and set Max hours per day and per period to 0.00 hours and assign that Restriction to each employee when they are made Inactive. That's a bit nasty as they don't get stopped on timecard entry until they are entering the hours....

This could easily be done by VS Tools small customization.
