  • 1.  GP 2018 Version 18.5 Issues

    Posted 18 days ago

    Hello,

We just recently upgraded to GP Version 18.5.1596 and have been experiencing some very odd issues to include:

    1. GP locks up or freezes when trying to save recurring entries or make updates on an existing vendor card. We typically have to reboot or reset our session.
    2. The submit button for our some of our recurring journal entry workflows is missing.
    3. We receive a SQL error for some recurring entries and have to start a new recurring entry in order to post to our GL.
    4. We have to sign in and verify when saving or posting an entry at various times.

Is anyone else experiencing any of the above issues and have any recommendations or workarounds? It has been very time consuming to have to restart our computer each time we have to save a journal entry or update a vendor card. Also having to recreate a new recurring batch has also been frustrating. Any advice or recommendations are welcomed.

    Thank you in advance,

    Tiffany

Do you have any 3rd party add-ons or GP customizations installed with GP ?

If so, try disabling and testing without them to see if the issue reoccurs. Add them back in one at a time and test to figure which one is the cause.

Thank you for your response David. We will have to get our IT team involved on this to assist. Have you experienced or heard of other users experiencing any of these issues after they upgraded to 18.5?

    Thanks,

    Tiffany

As David mentioned, the first thing we'd want to do is rule out any third-party products or customizations you have with Dynamics GP.

An easy way to do this is by using these steps:

    1.    Have all users log out of Dynamics GP on the one workstation or server, then rename the GP directory from something like this >> C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\ to something like this >> C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP_OLD\

       2. In Control Panel > Programs and Features, right-click on this instance of GP and choose 'Change'. In the options window that opens, choose the 'Repair' option and run it through successfully.

       3. The Repair option will re-create the entire GP directory you just renamed, under the original name, to include all folders, files, and modules, but without any third-party products, customizations, etc.

       4. What we'd then want to do is have user(s) login to Dynamics GP via this 'new' GP directory and see if we can still re-create the error messages and issues with GP locking up on various processes.

--if the error/issues are not seen on the 'new' GP directory, then we'd want to first add back any modified forms and reports, then test again to see if the issues return.

if still not, then add back any third-party products or customizations, one by one, testing after each one to see if these issues return or not. If they do, then you probably have the potential cause of the issues in GP.

When you're done with the testing, you can delete or rename this 'new' GP directory and then rename the original GP directory back to the original name, in order to continue to use it as you were before.

    Thanks

Thank you Derek for your response and recommendation. Have you heard or experienced any issues that are similar to what I shared when you upgrade to 18.5? We will get our IT team involved to see if this fixes the issue. Thank you again for your advice.

Nothing that I've seen. I also asked one of my colleagues on the GP Apps side who works more with recurring entries and the data side of things, and they hadn't either.

If not third parties or customizations, it almost sounds like connectivity issues between GP and SQL or even with Active Directory.

    Thanks

Ever since our last update in December, we have had lots of issues. Not the same as yours. Good luck! We have lost some of our report formatting and cannot seem to fix.

@Michelle Carr Some reports might have changed significantly between versions, which might mean the custom formatting will need to be recreated from the original report. Everything is fixable, just might be a bit more work.

    Tiffany,

You can count on the core product published by Microsoft to be rock solid through an upgrade.  The experienced community is pointing you in the right direction.  You probably have customizations or add-on products that were not upgraded properly (along side your core GP).

Typically, when there are customizations or add-ons, your Microsoft partner performs the upgrade and effectively upgrades them all together.

I recommend identifying your partner and have them address these issues for you.

    I hope this helps.
