    We are looking to change our paper AP invoice filing method to something electronic.

    Is anyone having luck using Doc Attach within GP, or are people facing issues with the database growing too large using that functionality?

    Are there any other inexpensive solutions people suggest?

    Hi Emily.

    Doc attach works fairly well, but it is limited when compared to other fill-fledged document management products out there.  We wrote a tip/blog about this functionality some time ago (see here: Document attachment in Dynamics GP | Tips and tricks for Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) ERP | ICON (iconsa.net).  We also did a short video on it on our youtube channel (see here: ICON DocAttach). DocAttach is meant to simply allow you to attach electronic documents to your GP transactions and apply some basic classification to them for sorting and inquiring.  It does not provide any sort of workflow in itself, and while you can use GP's (also limited) workflow capabilities, both functions are detached from one another. 

    If I read you correctly, you are looking to automate your AP invoice process.  Unfortunately, you need to find a product that not only allows you to scan (or OCR) your invoices, but also do approval workflow most likely.  There are several products out there but none that I would classify as "inexpensive".  I would look at DynamicPoint or ReQlogic to see if either fit.  Other products such as Metaviewer and Kwiktag are longstanding favorites but neither is inexpensive.  Worth a look, though.

    Hi Emily,

    I work for an ISV called Fidesic that can help with document management and AP automation. As Thomas mentioned we're not "free" but I think we're quite reasonably priced.

    We can handle the invoice process from document capture (OCR), to invoice approval, to import into GP, all the way through payments by ACH (or any simplified version of these features.) Most importantly this line of features is designed to work with GP directly.
