Anyone Want to Help Resurrect the SF Chapter?

  • 1.  Anyone Want to Help Resurrect the SF Chapter?

    Posted 03-22-2018 10:00 AM
    Hi all,

I am relatively new to Dynamics GP and joined this group about 2 years ago when it was active but I never attended a meeting. I have attended the last two summit events and am preparing to leave Chicago now after the Amplify event. I have found great value in the GPUG community and every time I meet with others in the community I learn more and am inspired to continue improving and leveraging the power of our GP system. To this end, I am interested in to know if there are any others who are interested in helping me resurrect the chapter? Like many of you, I wear several hats in my organization and never seem to have disposable time. This scares me a bit to take on something new but I believe many would benefit from a local chapter again, including my company. If there are others who feel the same as I do, and are willing to help lead the chapter, I am willing to share responsibilities. Looking forward to your responses!

Yes, I'd be up for that.  I work in Monterey, and get up to Concord on a regular basis on the weekends.  Maybe we could do a Friday afternoon/evening event, so we don't have to take a bunch of time away from our regular busy lives?  Happy to help however I can!

I work in Concord and would be happy to host.  I think a Bay Area group is a great idea.

Count me in, I'd be happy to help kickstart the group, again.
We have such a wealth of GP customers to draw upon in the bay area, its a shame we haven't kept this up.

    • Professional Sports
    • Non Profits
    • Manufacturing
    • Healthcare
    • Public Agencies
    • Franchise Restaurants
    • just to name a few sectors...
One of the challenges we've faced in the past has been picking an area to try to draw a quorum (Marin County, City, Peninsula, East Bay, Sacramento)
I almost feel like we ought to shake it up and go big or go home. maybe we try for a NorCal event to get everyone to come out, and then establish smaller local working groups for quarterly chapter meetings?

I'm throwing Kathleen Cavanaugh name in as well (from Sierra Workforce) she has been interested in establishing a Sacramento area group.

I like Zubin's idea.  I'm in Auburn, and I can't justify a drive to SF for a two hour meeting for myself and interested co-workers.  Three of us attended a meeting in SF a couple of years ago. It was an all-day excursion and we didn't feel like we got enough content to justify a repeat visit.  A Nor Cal kickoff followed by local chapter meetings would be great.

Another for Sacramento Valley Area, We're in Rocklin/Roseville Area, Bay Area is a 6 Hour round trip which is hard to pencil in.

I like that idea as well.  I am in the bay area, but find a similar experience with other SF events.  It takes hours more to get there and back.  Maybe a full day kickoff  and then shorter local meetings?  I'd be able to help with a Concord area meeting.

A Sacramento - San Joaquin area group would work much better for us, as we are in Stockton.  Having to go into the bay area isn't always the best option for us, time wise.

I'm in Sacramento and a Concord meeting location would be great!! I know of several attendees in Sac who would be interested in attending. Also, we use Dynamic Budgets and I know @ZubinGidwani would love to present and he is in the area. I'd be happy to help.

Thank you everyone for the responses! I am excited that it sounds like there are several interested in getting the group going again. I am about an hour north of Sacramento so everything is far for me. I am game to start with a Concord event and see how we can create some sub groups or more local chapters. I also like the idea of choosing an initial meeting on a Friday so as to help for all of us with super busy schedules.

Jodi, when are some good dates for you to host?

    Thanks again all!

Friday's are always good for me and we can start as early as folks want.  Every Friday in April is good and every Friday is good in May except May 25th (Holiday weekend).  Every Friday in June is open also.

I am happy to provide some coffee and breakfast items for a morning meeting.  Parking is free and the address is 2552 Stanwell Drive in Concord.

We have multiple rooms available that can fit up to 150 people, so head count is not an issue.

    Hi all,

I am pulling the pieces together to throw out dates and times. Friday mornings May 4, 11, and 18 would work for me. If these dates do not work for the masses, I am sure I can move something around to make it work or we can push into June. Thank you Jodi for offering your office (2552 Stanwell Drive in Concord) as a meeting space.

I am sure that several have a bit of travel like me - would the majority want to meet at 10am or 11am?

Please respond with your affirmations or other thoughts.

I am looking forward to kicking off the new and improved Northern California GPUG Chapter(s)!

Concord on Friday is fine, but later in the day would be preferable.  If I could work at least a few hours, and then drive up, that would be great.  I already have plans to be up in Concord the weekends of May 5/6 and 19/20, so a meeting on the 4th or 18th would be perfect!

Too late in the day on Friday won't work for people who have to get out of the Bay Area after the meeting.  I would want to be back on the road by 3pm at the latest.

I would like to attend.  Dates and times that have been suggested I believe I can make.  I will also have a drive so a 10AM time would be easier for me.

    Andrew,
I would love to be part of the GP SF Chapter, but your proposed dates will not work for me as I will be on vacation.

However, please add me to your mailing list and whenever possible I will attend our groups meeting.

    Hi Rick,

We discussed several dates and we have a great space in Concord to host the meeting. We did not agree on a time to meet as of yet. Someone in the group (forgive me for not recalling whom right now) sent out a poll a few weeks back. I am hoping we can see the results of the poll and coordinate a meeting after that.
