Thanks,
Can that user open a Windows Explorer and access that folder ?
"\\crown\report share\"
As there is a space in the share name (which is never a good idea) you need to put it into quotes or use the Windows Explorer to 'navigate' there.
Technically when you open the browser field in Windows Explorer and start typing the server name ( \\crown\ ), the shares should pop-up by themselves..
like below :

Once the shared folder is open, have the user try to create an empty TXT file or a new folder, just to make sure they have full rights to Write data (this is critical for GP).

Shelagh,
Could you post here at least the first few lines from the DYNAMICS.SET files (not the one from the top, but after the "windows" section where the folders are listed)?

@David Morinello
I have looked at .set and .ini files till my eyes are crossed ..LOL. There were no lines for the shared paths in the .set file on the laptop so I fixed that. i fixed that for another user on another machine and it worked but not on the evil beast. So my next step is to try to get IT to take a closer look at the laptop I guess. I really appreciate your help! I feel like there is some box or switch or thing not checked that's gonna make me feel pretty stupid once we find it. Oh well, it's an educational experience right?

Local install of GP Client I assume?
Check the Dynamics.set and Dex.ini ("Data" subfolder) on the laptop and compare against those files on other machine.
Go line by line, what you are looking for is probably a typo somewhere in the .set dictionary paths in the bottom half of that file. But check both.
Windows

//Xnetwork pathX/SharedGPFiles/Forms-Reports/CORP/Data/REPORTS.DICetc.
Note: Don't use $ shares in these paths. (//Xnetwork pathX/c$/SharedGPFiles/Forms-Reports/CORP/Data/FORMS.DIC)

I am still working on this but have to go through the outsourced IT dept. Got one good tech first but still didn't solve the problem. Next guy was worse. Tried different solutions like making user admin on the laptop, checking rights to the shared folders etc. No change.
The user can login from any other computer and view and print attachments. When another user tries (logging in to machine and GP with their creds) they can't view the docs either. When they go to any other machine on the network everything works. It's just this one laptop. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for your time!

VPN
I have seen users forget to log in, or have issues and not notice, so if a VPN is required to see the shared location, make sure they are logged in.
Yes, if they have had access before they should be able to see them now. But the error is pointed to some problem and a connection issue of some kind is the most likely, based on that message. Once you have access to the laptop, see if you can get to the shared location from the desktop. If not, try logging off the network and relogging in with another user. Then open GP and test.
Never discount the weird. I had our IT recently "clean up" a AD Group account that made a shared drive available. Once they put our GP users back in place, access worked again.

Hi David,
Yes there are dictionaries that point to a report share folder on the server. If the user has rights to the folder on the share shouldn't they be able to access it no matter what machine they are on? What can I look for on the laptop itself? Unfortunately I can't get to the laptop to check until Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday they are crazy busy.
Also just to learn a little more...how could the VPN create a problem? Thank you so so much for your time!

When I see path issues here, I right-away start checking for shared drive issues.
- Are there any dictionaries in the Dynamics.set that point to a shared resource not located on the laptop?
- How about having another working user log into that laptop with their AD account? Second, make if you see shared resources, make sure they are reachable from this laptop.
- AD Group account granting/sharing a Share resource?
- VPN?

Hi all,
One user has switched from a desktop computer to a laptop and has lost the ability to click on a call summary and view it in GP>Wennsoft Service. Screen shot is attached.
I have already checked the set file and the ini file for this user on both the desktop and the laptop and all seems OK there. (GP is setup on server and individual workstations.)
Screen shot attached for the error message.
Any suggestions? Could this relate to rights on the laptop?
Thanks so much.
