2019 Summit in Orlando!

It's never to early to start planning, right?

I'm just curious for those that are planning on attending GPUG Summit this year, when do you arrive? Do you have plans to visit Disney or Universal while you're in town? Would love to hear others' opinions and plans!

I'm planning on arriving late Sunday. When I booked my flight, they hadn't solidified the conference schedule. When I've gone on Monday or Tuesday in years past, I ended up missing pre-conference events that I wanted to attend. Now I have a bit of a dilemma on what I will be doing Monday and Tuesday. My family is also going to join me post-conference and we are taking a week long vacation to see Disney and Universal.

I told my boss that I may work from my hotel room or may take some PTO and hit up the parks. As an annual passholder at Walt Disney World, I have some options.

If you need any opinions on Disney parks, I'd be happy to share mine! (I'm admittedly a bit bias!)

I would also love to hear what people want to do for a meet up dinner or two. I see on the conference hotel website, that there are a few on-site restaurants, but I know we aren't far from Disney Springs, which offers so many choices.

    Arriving in just 48 days!

I will be flying in on Tuesday, my mom is meeting me there and staying with me, we are flying back early on Saturday.  We are really wanting to check out Disney, I see that through the conference we can get evening tickets for $65 (or maybe $62) so I think that we are going to try to do that on Friday evening, just want to make sure that's the best ticket price we can get before purchasing.  I hear that the October festival is pretty cool.  We have never been to Disney but went to universal back in 2007 and loved it.

What hotel are you and Darlene staying in?  My mom and I are at the Buena Vista resort.  We are so excited this will be the first "vacation" or trip that the 2 of have taken together, and it will be nice to spend sometime with my mom just the 2 of us.  Of course I am excited to learn more about GP too!  (LOL!)

Darlene and I are staying at the conference hotel. We booked our rooms the day the block opened. (I couldn't wait a second longer!)

I would highly recommend the Food & Wine Festival at EPCOT, but if you are going on Friday, know that EPCOT will be PACKED with people. It's a weekend night and the local folks PLUS vacationers all seem to end up there. If you don't mind the people, it would be worth going. For me, I tend to avoid EPCOT on the weekends for that reason. It looks like Magic Kingdom will have Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party that Friday night. It's a ticketed party, which in theory means fewer people. However, the $65 ticket wouldn't be for that.

Are you a Star Wars fan? Galaxy's Edge in Hollywood Studios will be open when we go! That might be a good park to spend the Friday evening in, even if you aren't a Star Wars fan. It would be a great night to see Slinky Dog Dash and Toy Story Mania in the new(ish) Toy Story area of Hollywood Studios. If you end up at Hollywood Studios, I highly recommend sticking around for Fantasmic! It's a GREAT show!

The other option is Animal Kingdom. I haven't spent an evening in that park, as evening hours are relatively new for that park. I can tell you that the Pandora area is amazing. The Festival of the Lion King never gets old for me or my family. Finding Nemo musical stage show is also a can't miss!

Really, there are no wrong choices when planning a visit to a Disney Park.

Where did you see the evening tickets for Disney? I'm wondering if that covers Friday night.

Any plans brewing for an evening meet up? I will be in town Tuesday - Friday, and I see that Rockton is having an event on Thursday night, that I'd like to go to. I also need one night free to visit my brother.  What nights does everyone else have free?  Thoughts on where to go, what to do??

I'll arrive late on Monday, so I would have Tuesday or Wednesday to do something.  I also think that we were going to try get the Iowa chapter grouped together for lunch on Wednesday so way we can all connect and see what plans everyone has.
