I had an invoice that did not generate sales tax on the freight, but it did on the product.  In Texas, freight is sales taxable if the product delivered is sales taxable.  I started looking around (having no clue where I needed to go), but I could not find.  The Customer Card has that taxing jurisdiction noted.  If anyone can point me in the correct direction, I would be appreciative.

    Hi Thomas,

Did you check the Sales Order Processing Setup --> Options ?
It is possible that the tax option on Freight is set to "Nontaxable".

    I did check that:

The product was taxed.  I am confused.  The only think I could think of is that someone changed the sales tax amount manually.  Except that the person doing the invoices is too new,

    1. If the Base on Customers tax option is selected, no tax schedule comparison is made. Instead, the following occurs:

      1. If the shipping type of the shipping method that is assigned to the transaction is set to Pickup:

        • If Inventory is registered, the Tax Schedule ID field will default from the Sales tax schedule of the Default Site ID of the Sales transaction. All of its tax details will be used to assess taxes for the Freight Amount of the Sales transaction.

        • If Inventory is not registered, the Tax Schedule ID field will default from the Sales Tax Schedule of the Company Setup window. All of its tax details will be used to assess taxes for the Freight Amount of the Sales transaction.

      2. If the shipping type of the shipping method that is used on the line items is Delivery, all tax details in the Tax Schedule ID field, which will default from the tax schedule assigned to the Ship To address of the customer, will be used to assess taxes for the Freight Amount of the Sales transaction."

I went to the Ship-to-Address screen first.  That was problem.  The screen was incorrectly and half-way completed.  I will share the screen prints with the Accounting Manager on Monday so training can be done.  We have new people.

@Aref Karam thank you for helping me narrow the problem.

@thomashill. We do this in the payment terms setup. The bottom section allows you to select what you want to calculate the discount on. See screenshot below. You can check the items you wish to calculate the discount on. Hope this helps.

Sorry Thomas I miss-read your question and was thinking discounts calculating on freight, not tax. My mistake. :)
