1.  Adobe PDFs & Windows Creator Update

I am curious if anyone else is experiencing issues creating pdf's within Dynamics GP after installing the latest patch for the Windows 10 Creators Update. Specifically, build 1709.

We have had a few customers report issues after applying this patch and I'm trying to figure out if this is a widespread issue directly related to this patch or if there are additional variables involved.

If you have this build installed and are able to create pdf's within Dynamics GP, I would love to hear feedback. One point of clarification, I am referring specifically to the functionality that requires the machine to have Adobe Acrobat DC installed.

Thanks to all!

Hi Tom,

I have Windows 10 version 1709 according to my Windows Update history. Just tested the Send to Mail Recipient (PDF) option - first it needed me to change the Adobe PDF Settings under Printing Preferences to deselect the option below, once changed (and GP restarted) it worked just fine. Hope that helps.

We've had problems with Windows Update disabling the Send to PDF function in GP, but I can't verify the build number at this time.  We found a workaround (print to PDF printer), but I'm not sure it ever got resolved.

(And the setup Victoria Yudin mentions above is standard setup for Adobe + GP.  We've been using it for years.)

Blair makes a good point. With the newer GP versions you can simply print to the printer and then choose the PDF printer, which should be a good workaround and may be why you might not have too many people that have run into the issue.

Hi @Victoria Yudin,

We have product functionality that leverages the GP functionality to create Adobe pdf files from the Report Destination window.

I would greatly appreciate if you could confirm that this works on your Windows 10 build 1709 machine. Our product functionality quit working with the Creators Update for Windows 10. In our testing, the GP functionality is broken as well and we are trying to ascertain if there is more to the story.

Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks to the community for the help! It was instrumental in identifying the fix for this issue.

For anyone interested, the Fall Windows Creator Update (Windows 10 Version 1709) appears to corrupt the "Adobe PDF" print driver in some way. This print driver enables the pdf creation functionality in Dynamics GP. The fix involves deleting and recreating the "Adobe PDF" print driver.

To manually install the Adobe PDF print driver:

  • Click Start >  Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Select Add a printer
  • Select Add a local printer
  • Check Use an existing port and select Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF) from the drop down.  Click Next
  • Click the Have Disk… button
  • Click the Browse… button
  • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF
  • Select AdobePDF.inf from the list, then click the OK button
  • You will see many Adobe PDF Converters in the list, however count six down from the top and click Next (you may need to try this numerous times to find the correct Converter from the list that works with your version of Windows)
  • Name your printer, e.g. Adobe PDF
  • Follow the rest of the prompts and your PDF printer should now be installed correctly

Thanks again to the community!!
