VPA File EDI820 Format

  • 1.  VPA File EDI820 Format

    Hello,

We currently use GP to generate Canadian EFT files, as well as Cheques.  We want to start creating a new file format called EDI820 to pay vendors with Visa. Called VPA.  Has anyone implements this?  Looking for any tips/tricks/things to avoid if possible, or even a step by Step how to?

We also want to generate ACH files for USD EFT's. Currently, we only generate CAD EFT's.  Happy to hear any suggestions if you have them.

    Regards,

    Peri Anderson

    Hi @Peri Anderson,
Are you talking about the real EDI 820 format for payments & remittance advice ?

I'm not sure GP is suited to generate such a detailed EFT file fulfilling such requirements... or if it does, it's going to get a lot of work to generate such file.
As for the ACH format, that entirely depends on the financial institution.. as each one might have a different format. Best is to contact the financial institution you're working with and ask them for their format.
GP has a few pre-defined default EFT formats for a few banks if I recall correctly.

    Hi Beat

Thank you for your reply.  TBH, I don't know exactly what we need.  Our bank provided us a list of 4 file types that they claim our ERP should be able to produce.

    EDI820 - Industry Standard
    Excel/CSV
    Flat File

    ISO20022/XML

    with these specs.

    File Specs
so as long as GP can be set up to create any of these files types, i guess it doesnt matter which one we end up moving forward with.

as for ACH, I will circle back with the bank to get their file specs.

    Regards,

    Peri Anderson

Thank you @Peri Anderson for the precision.
Then Flat File it will be ! What is your Canadian bank institution ? GP has already some of the default formats for RBC, Scotia & TD I believe..

For the US banks, standard NACHA formats for ACH should be available too..
This blog post should get you started with EFT :  https://www.fmtconsultants.com/read-this-before-you-start-on-your-dynamics-gp-eft-for-payables-configuration/

For testing, use a tool like Notepad++, because it has an integrated column counter, which makes it easier to validate the positions of the fields in the output file.

    You're welcome,
And BTW, if you ever need more help about anything related to GP, I've someone local in Ottawa that can reach out to you, and  I'm located in Montreal.
I helped Sharon start the local GPUG chapter in Ottawa, so if you haven't attended one of the meetings, I'd strongly suggest to go to the next one :-)
    Have a great day.
