    Hello:

I'm testing GP 2018 Manufacturing Outsourcing in a test company.

The shipments window for the manufacturing order/outsourced purchase order is blank.  So, I cannot complete this last step of the outsourcing process.

The purchasing order has been approved in GP workflow, the manufacturing order has been released and therefore scheduled, the purchase order was saved, and the purchase order was linked to the MO in that purchasing expansion window.  But, that shipping expansion window is blank.

Please let me know what I'm doing wrong, as soon as possible.

Is GP's PO workflow "system" messing this up?  I have no clue why I cannot complete this final outsourcing step.

    Thanks!

    John

    Hello John,

Did you generate the PO off the MO? Do you have an outsource route step setup on the finished good item? Is the outsource route step attached to your MO?

That is where I would start. You can't generate a shipment if there is no outsource route step on the MO.

    Best regards,
    Diane

    Hi Diane:

Thank you, for the quick response!

Yes, on all counts.  So, I still don't understand what I did wrong nor do I know how to fix this.

    John,

Can you do a select on the OSRC1200 table in SQL and see if the record is in that table?

    Thanks,

    Diane

It's empty.  I don't get it.  I guess I'll just create a case with Microsoft.

I'm following instructions and KB articles, to the letter.  I can't believe how difficult this task is turning out to be.

    John,

    Some other items to check:
    1. What Labor Code did you select on the Routing Sequence Entry window? (Or the Machine ID if you are using machine for outsourcing). Can you send a screen shot of the Routing Sequence Entry window?
    2. Did you check the "Use Labor Code for Outsourcing" checkbox on the Labor Code Definition window. Can you send a screen shot of the Labor Code Definition window?
    3. Did you set "Outsource" to "Yes" on the Work Center Setup window and did you assign a vendor to that Work Center? Can you send a copy of the Work Center Setup window and the Outsourced Work Center Setup window?

    Thanks,
    Diane

    HI Diane:

Sigh...I just saw that all users are logged into GP as of today, so I cannot get in to provide screenshots.

Otherwise, the answer is "yes" to all of your questions.

I'll get the screenshots to you if and when I can.

    Thanks, again!

    Hi Diane:

Attached is a Word document containing the three requested screenshots.

In an effort to leave out the name of the customer's database, I had to leave out the titles of the windows.  But, I think that you'll be able to tell which window is which.

    Thank you!

    John

    Here is the "fix".

Although the KB article(s) on Outsourcing say that you don't have to have a Service Item Number already created and tagged with the Outsourced Work Center, you actually do.

Once I created such an item and placed it in both the Work Center ID and the BOM, data appeared in the Shipments window!

Wow.  I wish that the KB article(s) had not said that you don't have to have an outsourced item.  That's not good.  Oh, well.

    Thanks!
