Is it possible to add a doc to attachments in Great Plains via the db? Does GP have an API, or just web services?

We have an external workflow and the users upload a document to that workflow (outside of GP). We'd like to add that document to Great Plains as a document attachment directly from the workflow. Is this possible? How would we go about getting this external document added as an attachment to an item in Great Plains? Does GP have an API or only web services?

    Thank you,

    Hi @Angela Morehouse,

I had a similar requirement for a customer project recently, and I was unable to find any API or stored procedures that allowed file attachments to be imported to GP Doc Attach. eConnect does not support Doc Attach, and I don't believe GP Web Services does either.

So I have developed a .NET DLL API that allows me to import a file as a GP Document Attachment.  I currently have one customer testing it for Vendors and AP Invoices, but I still need to work on adding additional functionality and preparing it for sale as a product.

One challenge is that each record / transaction type is handled slightly differently by GP Doc Attach.  So I have to reverse engineer and develop and test each record type (customer, vendor, item, SOP, POP, RM, AP, Notes, etc.) separately.  And I've found a few differences between some GP versions, so I have to test across GP 2013 - 2018 and handle those differences.

If you know which record types you want to attach to, let me know the record types and your GP version, and I can add support for those records if you are interested.

Wow, @Steve Endow! Are these cool GP enhancements (including your nifty Search tool), like, weekend projects in your copious spare time? This one sounds like it might be a bit delicate... but a very nice capability!

    Sincerely,
