Slowness in GP 2018 and Mangement Reporter

We recently upgraded to GP 2018 and we are experiencing a lot of slowness.  We are not sure if it is the software itself or if it was how it was setup or what.  But does anyone else have a problem with slowness?  We also use Management Reporter and that is extremely slow.  Is anyone else experiencing slowness there?

    Hi Tracy.

This is a hard one to answer.  There are a number of possible reasons for the slowness, assuming there is a general downturn in performance after the upgrade.  Generally speaking, there is no technical reason I know of for any slowness happening from GP2016 to GP2018 if everything else remained the same.  I would look into your server and network infrastructure, and whether there was a change in either hardware or software there that happened together with the upgrade.  Management reporter in particular is very SQL-intensive so maybe someone tinkered with SQL settings (memory in particular)?  Hard to say without more specifics, but did not want to leave you hanging with no response.

    Hope it helps!

We had the same problem with Management Reporter and the GP 2018 upgrade and it all boiled down to the Datamart. It took some cajoling but we finally got someone to admit that it was not necessary to use the Datamart in order to use Management Reporter.

There is very little reason for Management Reporter to be so SQL intensive for a majority of GP users coming from FRx.  The default setup and installation for MR apparently assume you are running a Fortune 100 company with intensive, real-time multi-company financial reporting capabilities.  The usual GP customer however just wants to print financial and budgeting reports one or two times per month.

If you are that company needing access to massive amounts of real-time financial reporting information kick up the memory and processing and your SQL server or image.  For everyone else, get that Datamart turned off.

    Tracy,
As Thomas pointed out, this is a broad question that can hardly be answered here without knowing more about your setup and environment.
Jeff pointed out to a potential problem, which might be the way your MR 2012 is setup and using lots of CPU on your SQL server (if installed on the same server). Have a look at this blog post :
    https://dyngpgeek.wordpress.com/2014/12/09/the-dreadful-1-minute-refresh-cycle-of-mr2012-datamart/
it is quite old since it was posted back in 2014 and the scripts may not apply anymore to the most current MR versions. However it still explains why your system might be slowed down.
