GP Delayed Opening after Login

  • 1.  GP Delayed Opening after Login

    Posted 22 days ago

We are experiencing a 15-30 minute delay opening Dynamics after we have selected the company.  The GP screen is all white and remains frozen for a period of time.  This also happens when switching companies.

We have 4 instances of GP running in the same environment.  Each instance is on a separate SQL Server and published to end users via 30 identical Citrix servers.  This is only happening on one of the instances, the other 3 open normally.
    Having trouble finding the cause.
    Has anyone ever experienced this?

    Hi Beth

Is the delay on initial login as well or only when switching companies?

Does the problem server has internet connectivity?

    What Products are installed?

    Regards

    David

    Hi Beth!
Sorry to hear of the problem!

If I read your configuration correctly, GP and SQL are on separate Servers?
    1. Check the connection between GP and the SQL Server. Is it healthy? Can you ping, tracert, etc.?
    2. Check the health of the Dynamics database and the company database.
    3. Any SQL Jobs or other automations consuming large amounts of time, blocking, waits?
    4. A more out there one, but check RAM and CPU to make sure they are configured as you expect. I had my IT once take away RAM from my DEV SQL server (didn't think we used it enough or some such). GP start times were around 10-12 minutes until it was changed back.
    5. On the GP Client, check the Dynamics.set for any dictionary files that are located on a network share vs in the GP folder on the same server.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I did and it turned out to be a corrupt GP User ID. I created a new ID for the user and had them log on with the new ID.

    Thanks for your responses.
The delay happens with initial login and switching companies and I have narrowed it down to 7 databases where it happens.
We think it's the Mekorma add-on per the dexsql.log.

The issue ended up being the file path in the ME27650 table in the companies that use Mekorma.  That path was no longer accessible due to a change on our network.  I was able to update and GP opens properly now.
Thank you all for your input and thanks to Mekorma for having me check the contents of ME27650.

Hey David, is there a recommended amount of RAM and CPU for a GP install with 20-30 concurrent users? we seem to run a bit slow and laggy, especially during high usage times of the month.

We have an app server where users log in, and a separate server where the SQL data is stored. The only dictionary that isn't local on the app server is the reports dictionary, which is on the same server as the SQL data.

I'm not a hardware guy at all, my remote desktop stats on the app server are:
Xeon Platinum 8171M CPU @2.6 GHZ
    28 GB of installed RAM
    64Bit OS

    The SQL server:
    Xeon CPU E5-2673 @2.4Ghz
    48 GB of installed RAM
    64Bit OS

    Hi Beth

Have you tested with the Mekorma products removed from the Dynamics.set launch file?

Have you got the latest Mekorma (and all other ISVs) code installed?

    Have you contact Mekorma support?

    Regards

    David

    Beth,
I concur with David.. try to start the GP client with a sleek DYNAMICS.SET launch file.. make a backup copy of your original .SET file and take out all the ISV products (like Mekorma or Rockton ) as some of their builds were known for causing delays in starting or closing GP.
Use this KB article to make sure your .SET launch file is correctly formatted.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-modify-the-dynamics-set-file-so-that-all-users-can-share-the-reports-dic-file-in-microsoft-dynamics-gp-8220644a-a538-af9b-08fd-0e18452841e2

If it comes down to an ISV product slowing down your GP startup, add them back one by one until you find the culprit.
