This blog is two years old, but the story of how it all started out west on March 12, 2007 hasn't changed...

    Happy 12th birthday, #GPUG !!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW! Happy golden birthday GPUG! It's an honor to be a part of this amazing family. I've always felt so welcome by all and firmly believe this community will be around for so many more years and only continue to get better with age.

How exciting!  We should start a list of the 12 best things of GPUG - in honor of the 12 years many have worked so hard for.

I'll propose #1:  The GP Peeps - we have the most passionate GP professionals who share each and everyday in their own style.  GPUG would not have "had legs - as Bob said" without the caring community we have!  Happy Birthday!

    I agree with Momma @Kim Peterson !
I would never have been involved that much with the GPUG community without her ! she was the one that approached me and asked if I'd like to start presenting sessions with other members from the community and get more involved in sharing my experiences.
That's why I'd call the #2 : Empower the Community

GPUG would be nothing without all its members ! It has given the members the tools that were completely missing before and left to the mercy of their partners, which in some cases were not providing the support the customers deserved.  It has given the members a way to get another point of view about the Dynamics GP product and a support group for getting the feedback or real-life experience from other members, which is invaluable.
For all that, a big shout to Momma Kim for all the great work she did in the GPUG community and still does.
    THANK YOU KIM !!!

I have to agree with Beat and Momma Kim. Without her influence I would not have probably ever gotten to the point of presenting at Summit or being a chapter leader for the Minneapolis chapter.

Thanks to Momma Kim for getting me more involved.

    @Bob McAdam,
I remember that very 1st Convergence 2007 for me as if it was yesterday !! Probably my most profound experience in the GP community as I was a real newbie at the time and no idea what to expect from that event, our partner at the time not having even taken the slightest moment to explain how all this was working and how to organize my time to get the most out of it.
In 2007 my only references in GP were @Mariano Gomez & @David Musgrave who I had met only thru the GP newsgroups exchanges back in those years where no such thing than Community led website existed, and I was happy to meet them the very first time in person. I remember the beautiful location which I had missed ever since and dearly wanted to go back.. alas it never happened in the 8 or 9 Convergence years that followed. I remember that opening key note with Doug Burgum on stage and  Satya Nadella with the 'Ready Together' motto of this event.  I unfortunately missed the closing keynote with the famous Steve Balmer, as our partner had told me the last day was nothing else then repeated sessions most of the time and we left San Diego at noon already.. how bad that advice was :-(

I did not return to Convergence before 2010, mostly due to budget restrictions of my former employer and the change of company in 2009, but have never missed an event since then and was so glad to become part of the great GPUG family the year after and started co-presenting sessions with GPUG in 2012 in Houston TX.
The rest is history as some would say :-)
Long Life to the Dynamics Communities and GPUG !
    Happy 12th Anniversary.

Yes this is a great community...

How many of the current people were at the first meeting, held in the basement of the Peabody hotel back then?
If I remember correctly, there were only 24 of us? - Andy will need to verify this...

I still have my t-shirt (doesn't fit), but I have it and the PUG stuffed animal!
