Report Writer

    I need to make a change on the template that is used on orders and quotes. I have not used report writer before, and want to know how I go about it. We are using GP 2015.

    Are you using Report Writer reports or Word documents? If you are using Report Writer reports, make sure your reports.dic is pointing to your local computer that way you don't risk breaking the one in production. Once your changes are final and have been tested, then you copy your local reports.dic to the one in production.

    @Chase Landorf,

    Your question is a bit broad for a Forum! If you've never used Report Writer before, then you'll need to get some training. Forum responses will ultimately be unsatisfying because Report Writer is a very large topic.

    Hey @Chase Landorf

    Welcome to the nightmare that is ReportWriter Reports.  For what it is worth, I would follow Ms @Christine Boisvert's suggestion about not mucking up your existing reports by pointing the .set file on your local GP Install to a local folder for modified reports before embarking on this.

    In a nutshell, to use an RW report to update a template, you modify the RW Report, save it and then select to utilize that report in Alternate/modified forms and reports.

    Print the new STANDARD report to a File, and XML file, that is, then you go about creating a copy of the out-of-the-box Word Template, click modify there then when it opens in word go to the Developer Tab (You'll need GP's Word Add-In Installed) and then remove the current source of the template and add your new XML file as the template source.

    Now, format the template, save it into the templates, make it the default and there you are!
