We are implementing Fixed Assets and the opening list of assets is close to 35,000. After we imported the General, Book and Account information and tied the Cost Basis out between their old system (Sage) and GP, we kicked off the depreciation routine. I started a stopwatch when I started the calculation and at this moment, we are at 1 hour and the progress bar is just shy of 25%. Their legacy system calculates depreciation almost instantaneously, so this is a big step backwards. But the functionality of GP pushing the voucher information from AP to FA and then the subsequent calculation of the JE for depreciation and finally the push of the entry to the Financial module (vs. hand keying it) makes the client want to give this a shot.

Has anyone found a way to speed up the calculation of depreciation? Or some other work-around? Any and all ideas will be give consideration.

    Thanks in advance!

@Barbara Gavron  we have a client depreciating over 100k of assets (doing days depreciation).  There are some scripts that MS gave us to help speed up the process dramatically.  Shoot me an email with your info and i'll see if I can get the scripts from my dev team.

    Thanks @Michael Gummel,

That would be a great help. The depreciation run that took 3 1/2 hours was the initial run after the upload (period 0000-000 though 2019-005). Last night, I decided to see how long it would take for just one month, so I ran it from period 2019-006 to 2019-006 and it came in at a much shorter 1 1/4 hours. This is still not acceptable, but much better than the first run. I look forward to getting your scripts.

IRS regulations permit you to deprecate assets in pools of multiple assets rather than individually.
