Best Tool to Merge GP Vendors?

  • 1.  Best Tool to Merge GP Vendors?

We need a tool to merge GP Vendors.
We'd like something that is ideally 1. Easy to Use and 2. Provides tracking/audit history of the merges.
What have you used that you recommend and are there any lessons learned you would pass along? :)

There is a tool within GP for this.  Speaking from experience, this should be done in smaller batches.

    Hi Allison,

Like Deanne said, the built in Vendor Merge in GP works great.

    1. Run it on a test company
    2. Use the csv file import to Merge multiple vendors.  Each line should be    MergeFromVendorID,MergeToVendorID   with no headers in the file.
    3. The tracking/audit history doesn't really exist.  You'll get a report that basically lists the contents of the csv merge file.

If you have any questions or problems, I'm about 1/2 north of you in Vancouver.  Just give me a yell!

    It's in GP > Tools > Utilities > Purchasing

The CSV uploads work extremely well.

One thing we have noticed is that if certain connectors don't push, pull, and reconcile often, there can be some orphaned vendor numbers in other resources that end up not referencing anything within GP.  Just a thought that might help you avoid some errors and pain, and one more thing to test.  This can happen similarly when you work in the other modules with merges or modifications.

You will want to verify that your ISV's are not impacted or conflicted with.  ISV's support the tool differently.  Some not at all.  As someone mentioned, try it in a test company first.

    It's a great tool.
