    Hi all,

    First time poster, very new delving into the inner workings of GP outside of just general Item creation and Maintenance.

    Have been researching GP for ways to let our CSRs know alternate options exist for an item.  They will be same form, fit and function but have differences that we need to call out so they can make the customer aware of the difference and let them make a choice on which option they would like. Each item has an individual item number.

    If I'm understanding it correctly, Options -> Substitute Item 1 and 2 fields are used if a back order is present and other items can be used to fill it.  Exact same item, from a different warehouse?
    We need to let the CSR know what is different between the items so they can let the customer decide if they want it or not because it could be a drastic difference visually.

    We currently use the Note field which pops up and advises them of the options, and the differences between the products.

    I'm looking at Suggest Sales Item Maintenance.  Haven't found many user posts on this and the help topics are pretty generic.

    Thoughts on whether this is a viable option or is there another way available?

    the suggest sales items could work, but it's really designed around the 'upsell'   whereby when a customer purchases a certain item, your sales people would say 'since you bought this, you might want to also purchase these as well' and they can add them to the sales doc from the pop-up window

    in your case, I think they'd see the other items on the pop-up that are your options.

    not sure if you are open to it, but it you are open to look at isv products, you might want to take a look at SalesPad as they have additional functionality that a distribution company needs.

    Dynavistics' Trinity Distribution Solution handles linked, alternatives, and substitution items at sales entry.  There are a couple of ways to handle this depending on your industry; two options are the customer templates and linked items modules.

    I would think suggested items would work here - the catch would be that if the customer chose one of the suggested items, you would need to delete the original from the document (as said earlier, these are designed to be added items, not swap outs).

    Nonetheless.. it's an easy to do task and it even opens up automatically after the original item is 'tabbed' off of in the sales doc.  NICE!
