  • 1.  Login Failed Attempt to log in again or contact system admin.

    I have a strange behavior going on with one of my terminal servers.  I am getting the error Login Failed Attempt to log in again or contact system admin when a newly created user attempts to login.   Interestingly, on one of my term servs it logs in just fine.  Same with the installation on the SQL VM that has Dynamics installed as well, no issues.   Other users on the not-so-good term server have no issues logging in either, just the newly created one.   So it seems I have just one problematic server.   However, I cant shuttle this user to use the good one as programs that she needs are on the one that is not being nice.

    I have checked all my ODBC settings and they all match each other.   Anything else I can look at?   I have also deleted the user, recreated, and the behavior is the same.

    The environment is MS Dynamics on premise 18.3.1173 (2020).   on a WIndows Server 2016 (Terminal Server)
    The SQL environment is the same.

    Hi Ron,
    Have you checked all the Windows security for that new user vs others ? this sounds like a permission problem...

    Sure did.   Its a baffling one since it works on the SQL VM and a different Term Server with no errors on login

    Have you tried to create a new GP user and copy the settings from the faulty one ?
    What if you that user is setup a 'POWERUSER' in GP? does it still have problems at login ?
    Can you post some screenshots of the errors ?

    Making her a power user had no effect.  Behavior is the same.

    I didnt do any settings copy.

    It is the ODBC connection. The one used where the new users were created is different from the one they are connecting from.  Likely it is the DSN server name. The password is decrypted through the ODBC with the DSN server name... you can prove this by testing their credentials connecting from the sever where they were created vs the one they are attempting to connect from. If you then reset their password from the server they failed connecting on, then they will not be able to connect on the other.

    I bet one server ODBC was created using the IP number and the other with the DSN server name....look a that first.

    It was the ODBC.  But here is the enigma.  All I did was blow it away and recreate it.  Nothing ever changed because I took screen shots before and after.  The only difference is now it works... oh well i will take it.
