Pricing and discounting in Dynamics GP 2016 R2

With our GP implementation just beginning, we are looking for guidance on how customer orders are priced and discounted in GP.  Ideally we would like to see discounted unit prices to reflect actual margins on products sold while retaining the ability to show invoices with either discounted unit prices OR list prices less a summarized total discount on the entire invoice, depending on which way the sale rep and/or the customer prefers to see their pricing on invoices.

    Questions:
Does standard GP has this capability?
If not how close does GP come to that functionality?
How much does a modification like this to GP invoicing cost? (Just a rough estimate?)

Hi Daniel! Have you seen some of the many pricing discussions here on GPUG yet?

Also, there are 3rd party plug-ins that can enhance existing GP functionality, if necessary, like Rockton Software's Omni Price http://rocktonsoftware.com/products/dynamics-gp/omni-price

And, in additional to the standard out of the box GP reports, there are many ways to get customized reports.

And when all else fails, I am always a fan of reading the existing documentation. That way you KNOW what GP can do yourself.

    Daniel,
There are several options in GP to help facilitate this and you can use any or all of them together.  I'm assuming you are using Sales Order Processing for my answers below.

    1. Customer level discounts and price levels.  If you setup a Terms Discount for a customer, the discount is taken at the bottom of the invoice for the total of the invoice.  Price Levels are usually linked to inventory items and to the Item Price List (second screen shot).  You can setup different levels for different types of customers.  If you use this option, the price for each sales line will show at the price calculated by the price level - so it won't show full list price less a discount.

    2. Enter discounts manually during invoice entry.  By clicking the Show More button at the right for a given line item, you will see the Markdown field.  You can enter a flat amount in that field or you can click the blue Expansion Arrow button to open the Sales Markdown Entry window where you can enter a flat amount or a percent.  These discounts will show on the line item on the native/non-modified GP invoice form.

    3.  GP also has a module called Extended Pricing.  I think it is included in the Starter Pack licensing so you should own it.  It lets you get very granular with customer pricing and discounts.  You can enter promos for a specific period of time and they will expire and not be used after a specific date.

I'm sure there are many more ways you can do this but without know full scope of what you need, hopefully this will get you started.
    Thanks
    Windi

    Daniel,

In addition to what Windi has said, I have used Forms Printer by Accountable Software many times to get what prints from GP to format just the way you want it.  It can use SSRS Reports or Crystal Reports and can be used to produce a number of different formats based on a number of different criteria.

    Andrew,

Thanks for the suggestion to use a printer set up to customize the invoice format to meet our needs.  We will keep that in mind as we implement GP.

    Windi,

Thanks so much for your response.  The screen images and highlighting helped me quickly understand your instructions for the pricing and discounting options in GP.  I am impressed with the flexibility of the software.  We should be able to accomplish our goals to satisfy the sales team and keep our customers happy.
