    Good Morning Everyone,

Happy Friday! This isn't an earth-shattering issue, but me being the anal accountant that I am would like to be able to remove or archive closed/canceled orders from the list of MO's in the system.  Our GP Partner recommended not removing them - is there a way to archive them without actually deleting them?

    Thank you!

    Dan,

You can create a new company and copy your entire prod company into it.  It's the same process as creating a test company.  I would put 'archive' in the name of the company and lock it down by only allowing a few people access to it.

Not the best solution.  But, it might work for you.

    Dan,
First and most important question. What is you records retention policy?

I don't know what your legal requirements are but they need to drive what you can or cannot delete. For example if you make an item like a Hip that goes in someone then you need to keep the information for the life of the person plus X number of years. If you are making ink refills, then you don't need to keep for 50 years.

Second question, Is it useful information?

Third question, Are they a hinderance? Do you need the space?

There is no reason to keep history for ever, so yes you can remove MO history,
BUT What is you records retention policy? You really need to have this first.

    Hi Dan,

The above suggestions are good (particularly the retention policy guidance)... there is another approach which is more robust and helpful if there is truly need - it's not free.

Check out Willoware's MFG Data Archive  (https://willoware.com/modules/mfg-data-archive/?highlight=mo%20archive).

If your firm is suffering performance problems due to the growing Manufacturing data accumulation (the article at the link describes this), this is a straightforward & competent solution to the need.  Key question is - do you really need it?  If yes, get it.  Willoware's software is reliable and solves problems directly.

While you're at Willoware's site, you should look at the other tools they offer - the Willoware tools are broadly used in the GP Manufacturing client base to fill the many gaps in the GP Manufacturing core product.

And - Happy New Year!  Hope this helps...
