Modifying WorkPlace PO Crystal Report - GP 2018

    Hi everyone -

We have a customer that is looking to make some modifications to their purchase order format in WorkPlace for GP 2018. Most of them are formatting changes and not an issue, however, they have a field they'd like added from GP that is not included in the stored procedure the Crystal Report is built from. In looking on Paramount's support site they indicate that the SP can be modified, but don't cover much else in the way of guidance. Does anyone have any experience in modifying the stored procedures in the WorkPlace PO Crystal Report (or any other WP reports)? Just checking to see if it's as big of an undertaking as it appears.

    Thanks,

It's no problem at all if you are familiar with Crystal Reports.  You can link any GP table or view to the existing stored procedures to get the fields that you need.  As you can see, we have added quite a few tables and views to heavily modify our purchase order...

    Greg -

This is an option I hadn't considered, but it certainly would make adding the needed fields easier. Did you have to redeploy the stored procedure, or were you just able to move the modified report in by itself?

    Thanks,

We renamed the original Purchase Order in the Workplace\Requisitions\Reports to have as a backup.  We then copied our modified crystal report into that directory.  I didn't want to modify the existing stored procedures since those will probably be modified at some point if you upgrade Workplace.

This is a great idea. Also, how did you handle the ODBC connection to the GP database? Did you repoint the commands to the same data source as the added tables?

    Thanks again,

That is correct.  We used the existing ODBC connection that is created when you install Dynamics GP.  The majority of our users go into Workplace through a GP quicklink we created for them.  The modified crystal report is setup to use the ODBC connection that gets installed when GP is installed.  Our users access GP through terminal servers and I knew that the same Dynamics GP ODBC connection would be present on all of our terminal servers.

OK, that makes sense. The users at this company are all using the web client, so that makes this a similar situation.

One other thing, and then I'll leave you alone...Can you provide a screenshot of the Database Expert in the report? I want to try to mirror what you're doing as closely as possible.

Greg, I really appreciate your help with this. Thanks very much.
