#Payroll posting accounts

    We have added to new pay codes.  We have over 50 departments so I need to add a new payroll posting account for each department combination.  Is there any way to do a table import from excel rather than add them one at a time manually?  I am fairly comfortable with SQL if anyone has a script.
    Thanks

    We have created a couple of new payroll codes.  Because we have over 50 departments, this will require mapping about 100 lines of payroll posting accounts.  I don't think there is any way to import from an excel file, am I wrong?  I am fairly comfortable with SQL is anyone has a script.

    Hi @Lisa Saumure

    If you get a chance talk to Heartland Business Systems, they have a Payroll Posting Accounts product that is phenomenal for handling this type of situation.

    Get in touch with @Carol Kossoris or @Al Schuette.

    I've seen their product in action and it could help you out a lot.

    @Lisa Saumure:

    I was so excited to hear about the new payroll posting accounts edits/additions feature with GP2016R2 until I found out you have to export all of your payroll posting accounts to Excel, make changes/additions, then import all of them back into GP. We have over 25,000 payroll posting accounts, which takes well over an hour to download. So, I am still adding them manually because the export also slows down GP functionality.

    I have attached the feature information that I downloaded from MS. I hope you are able to use it. 8-)

    Thanks

    So now I am trying to use the payroll posting accounts export/import feature because I need to add another 11,000 to our current amount of 25,000 plus. I guess I would rather spend the time after hours waiting for the import than key it all in. 8-)

    Does anyone know if there is a limit on the amount of lines that it will import? The process ran for over 8 1/2 hours yesterday with no success. I believe our midnight backup interrupted it. 8-(  My test import, which was only 26,000 lines took less than 2 hours. It seems odd that it would take 4 times that for only 50% more data.

    I'm going to try again tonight. Any tips?

    Thanks

    After trying two more times on a local install of GP (previous attempts I used Remote Desktop to the server) I have determined that 36,502 lines of payroll posting accounts was too much for GP to handle in the import process. On a good note, I did find out that they can be added through SQL using SSMS. Thanks to one of the best techs I know! Thanks Lance!!

    Thanks
