Somehow locked myself out of GP

    Hi everyone-

    Last night I logged out of GP and then attempted to log back in. No matter what I do I can't log back in.

    Logged in as 'sa' and changed my password. I have the Enforce Password Policy box and Enforce Password Expiration boxes checked. I also checked the Change Password Next Login box after giving myself a new, temporary password.

    I went back to log into GP and the new password I set doesn't work. I just keep getting "The login failed..." error box.

    Clearly, I have either mucked something up or I am just being dumb here. Should I delete my login and recreate it?

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    Hi Joseph,

    I would only delete your login if it's your last option. If you delete your login, you lose all your shortcuts, home page settings, autofill values etc... Have you tried re-entering the password for your user in the user setup screen? Do you have a different keyboard setup? This has happened to me before when I had my keyboard set to french language. Try typing your password simply in notepad and see what comes up.

    Hi Christine-

    Yes, I have recreated it and also did the Notepad thing. It still doesn't work!

    Check in SSMS to see if your SQL user is locked out.  Also, make certain you're entering your user name correctly; remember, the user name is case-sensitive as well as the password.

    Hi Charles-

    My SQL user isn't locked out. I am entering my username correctly (all caps) and am entering the password correctly.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the confirmation.  To clarify, you logged into GP as the SQL sa user and changed your user's password, then logged out of GP.  Did  you then attempt to log in as yourself on the same GP client, or was it a different client?  Is your password 16 characters or less?

    Hi Charles-

    I changed my GP password on the GP server and then attempted to log in on a different client (our Terminal Server).

    This is very strange -- I attempted to log in on the GP server with my username and new password and it worked! I did not try this earlier!

    It looks like a restart of the Terminal Server is in order tonight.

    Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

    Hi Joseph,

    So Dynamics Users Passwords, as you are aware are encrypted, but the key is the DSN name in the ODBC connection.
    You need to make sure that all your ODBC connections are named the same (DSN).
    So if they are different on the server than the terminal server, when you change your password on the server then the terminal servers will fail.

    Simple test:
    1. Change the server ODBC DSN name to the same as the terminal server;
    2. Log in as 'sa' and change your user password from Dynamics GP;
    3. Log in as you know on server (Verify password works;
    4. Log in on terminal server; - It should now work

    You beat me to it, Kerry.  @Joseph C. Markovich There's a good  thread with more that you'll ever want to know about GP logins here.

    Charles and Kerry-

    You two are the best -- thank you so much!

    That was my issue -- I had the ODBC name on the GP server different than on the Terminal Server. I can finally log back in again!

    Thank you.
