Payroll Tax Maintenance Window

As we enter our first new employee of 2020, using the new W-4 form as well, there is now an information box on the right side that tells you to add a certain number of exemptions based on the filing status.

Are we required to follow this step as this data does not appear anywhere on the new W-4 form for 2020?

    Thanks.  Ken

    Hi!

We are in a similar situation and wanted to piggyback on this thread a bit. The article by Terry was very helpful except for discussing how to enter amounts in Step 4 (b). If we put this amount in as a negative number in the "Additional Withholding" field, no FW tax calculates. Since this is an annual amount, are we supposed to de-annualize this amount on the W-4 form for this field in GP?

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Alison,

You should not be entering a "negative" amount from step 4b.  This step is to determine the dollar amount that is OVER the standard federal deduction amount.  The only way you would have a dollar amount to enter for this purpose is if someone's itemized deductions are greater than the standard deduction amounts listed on page 3.

Allison - I believe the negative amount that you are referencing would be the amount of tax on a pay period basis that you wish to reduce the employee taxes by.
