Payroll Net Pay figure different than Direct Deposit Amount

    Hi!

We have a situation on one check where the Net Pay for a given Employee is different (lower) than their Direct Deposit amount.  I analyzed the Payroll Transactions in UPR30300 and GL Distributions in UPR30401 and cannot find any type of Deduction or transaction that would make this happen.  The good news is that this batch only contained 4 checks and everyone else appears to be fine.  We also run Payroll weekly for over 1,000 Employees and we haven't had this issue.

In the ACH file, it did include the Direct Deposit amount.  Therefore, we ended up depositing more money in their Account that what their Net Pay reflected.

Looking for ideas on what else I could look into to determine what may have happened.  Their historical checks look fine and since this Employee is now terminated, we won't have any future checks to review.

    Thank you!

    Karl

    Hi Karl,
That's a curious set of facts!

Here's one thought -- you may want to look at the sequencing of deductions for that particular employee, since the overall amount of deductions look OK to you.

Perhaps the calculation of the ACH deposit is done out of sequence, that is, the direct deposit is calculated prior to one final straggling deduction or something.

    Otherwise, I'm stumped.

    Hi Maureen,

That is a great idea and it actually might have paid off!  Although their Deductions looked to be correct, we use Greenshades Garnishments.  I checked his Garnishment and ironically it paid down some Arrears that matched exactly the amount we were off!  So, it appears that the Garnishment update for the paystub and ACH didn't roll all the way through for some reason.

I will check with my Payroll Administrator to see if they remember anything unusual happening with the Garnishment window when processing this pay run.

    Thank you!
