We are very concerned that the year-end update is including the October release.  Now in order to get the typical year-end necessities, we have to do an upgrade cycle including all ISV products and we have to do it within the last month of the year without room for planning and testing?  This is shortened further by some ISVs not having their updates ready for a "couple of weeks."

Totally stressing out about this last minute dump on us.  Should we expect this poor and rushed timing at the end of every year or just this one?

    Jeff -

Not sure what version of GP you are on, but the year end release has three versions available to allow a year end update for 2015, 2016, or the October release.
Are you on an older version of GP?

2018. It is the only one that includes the October product release.  Anyone on 2018 and required to install the year-end update should be well aware of this information since it completely blows up the normal process of installing year-end releases.  Requirements for a full GP upgrade should have come out well before November 18 in order to get those in place prior to the end of the year.

    Hi Jeff,

Not to minimize your situation but this has been well publicized (I think?) since the news of the "no version number" Dynamics GP came out in late September or early October.

The code base is still 2018 so it is not a "full upgrade" - at least in the sense of what terminology I use with my customers. Will it be a larger endeavour than it might have been before? Possibly but it won't be or shouldn't be the same amount of effort as a full major version upgrade would be, unless you have customizations. ISV products should have published paths to get to this version if there is a change at all on their side.

This will be the case every year once you are on GP 2018 or the "no version number" Dynamics GP from now one. Each year-end's tax update will be cumulative and include that October's code changes so there will be smaller but more regular updates to your environment annually.

    I hope that helps somewhat...

I knew about the change in policy in Orlando, I just did not imagine that Microsoft would bundle the year-end update in with it and shorten the planning period to a month.

So far I have two ISV products not ready. One promising "a couple of weeks) and another "working on it."  I am waiting to hear from three others. One of those held up my previous version upgrade several months so I am not hopeful they will be ready before mid December.

Is it the official policy of Fargo now that testing is not as important as it was before since there are no longer major or important changes to the GP product?  I am fine with that philosophy but it would be far easier to execute if I did not have ten ISV products to update in that tight window.

Hi Jeff, I'm sorry to hear this and don't want to add stress to your already stressful year end.  But it is correct that you will get the October changes with the US year end update, it is an all inclusive update.

This has happened for a few years now where you get the features from an October release rolled into the year end updates, example 2018 R2.

Honestly the changes that are made to GP in its lifecycle today are not what they were 5 years ago.  It is smaller features, less impact to the install but still beneficial to our core user base.

We have many upgrade to 18.2 with no issues, many 3rd party products have their application ready to go.  I have all this noted in the modern lifecycle blog too.

We are all here to help and we will get through 2019 year end together no matter what, that is what community is all about!!

My apologies, I completely misread the original post and missed that the 2018 and current release were in the same download.  I am sure that @Terry Heley will be able to share additional information on this to help get to the details on this a little more clarified.
