    I thought that I'd express my appreciation for the capabilities that GP Power Tools gives me in my Admin role by writing a blog about a specific GPPT capability: creating and modifying Security Profiles. Here's the link to the blog. Tell me what you think!

    Sincerely,

    Great article "Sparkly" @Steve Erbach.

    Looking forward to more articles how GP Power Tools works for you.

    Let me know if you can think of features you need added?

    @David Musgrave,

    I wrote that in a flurry yesterday because I was all of a sudden hit by how easy it is to locate the GP resources for each user if that logging capability is turned on.

    As an addendum to the blog I'll say that since I've created Tasks based on the Security Log for each job type in our little company (we only have 7 full GP licenses) I can now see the resources that each user has tried to open but been denied access. That means that I can go to them and ask if they really need to get to those resources; and I can add those resources in a flash. It's just the coolest thing!

    New features? I'm totally unimaginative in that arena. I'm sure you get plenty of suggestions from people that use GPPT more than I do.

    Sincerely,

    Great post and blog @Steve Erbach! I thought about turning on the Security log too but wasn't sure if it would slow down any processes. Did your users notice any difference?

    Thanks

    @Joni Finnell,

    We only have 7 GP licenses and each user has GP installed on her/his own workstation... so we're not experiencing any slowdown.

    @David Musgrave most likely has some feedback from his customers about any GPPT effects on performance. My guess would be that it wouldn't be noticeable. And, knowing David, he would have done everything possible to minimize the impact.

    Sincerely,

    @Joni Finnell
    I have had the security log turned on since February 2018 and have 30 users. No slowdown or performance issues. I kept it on due to some turnover we had in accounting. I keep track of the new employees and what they are accessing and adjust permissions accordingly.

    @Steve Erbach
    Great Blog! I was going to blog about this  but as the saying goes "ya snooze , ya lose"  I guess I can now blog about how I tried to use the GPPT colors on the companies in GP and accounting hated it! LOL!

    Hey, Snoozer @Darin Vialpando!

    >>  I guess I can now blog about how I tried to use the GPPT colors on the companies in GP and accounting hated it! LOL! <<

    Reminds me of when I showed the company coloring capability of GPPT to one of the accounting managers at my last job. I showed her the "Hot Pink" scheme and she loved it... until there were squawks from the other accountants!

    Thank you for your kind comments, Darin, and for helping @Joni Finnell with your comments about performance.

    Sincerely,

    @Darin Vialpando

    I think you needed to choose some more subtle colour themes, there are over 100 available. I like the Dynamics >> Original - Dynamics theme.

    You can also use the window title feature to put the company and User into the title bar.

    There will be a performance impact but a few milliseconds should not be noticeable.

    The Logging system records statistics and updates 4 table records with the access data.

    The table will grow to a maximum size and then stop growing.

    Thanks @Steve Erbach! I'll watch for other responses.

    The GPPT is pretty awesome. I just wish I had more time to explore it.

    Thanks for the great info @David Musgrave! I had previously bookmarked these to read in my spare time but that never happens. LOL

    I guess it is time to just get it done. 8-)

    You have developed a great tool. Keep up the good work.

    No time like the present.

    If you will be at GPUG Summit, come to the two GP Power Tools Academy training sessions.
