GP Web Services - for email approval

    After installing the GP web service runtime and configuring the eConnect service starts but the Microsoft Dynamics GP Service Host will not start.  When I look at the even viewer error 10016 with the below message:

    The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
    {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
    and APPID
    {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
    to the user SPRINT\Administrator SID (S-1-5-21-1693805660-1212298022-1846952604-500) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

    I have tried changing the security on the CLSID and APPID but the service will not start.  Also I set security on a local user and domain user.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Carlos

    Is the logged in user in the Administrator group for that Server? Check the Event logs also for more specific details. I have seen an initial error like this when the installing user didn't have enough permissions on a Windows 2016 server.

    I'll echo @David Morinello and say that Web Services is very picky about having the appropriate rights.  We ended up creating a service account with local admin privileges on the host server and giving it privileges on the database server as well until we got it working.  The nice thing is that once we got it working, we really haven't had to muck with it since.

    Hi Carlos-

    Blair and David are spot on. I had to check our setup too -- we have a domain user running web services, but they are set as a local administrator on the server where web services is installed.

    I hope this helps.

    I have added the domain user and local user on SQL server and the Microsoft Dynamics GP Service Host will not start.  Does the web client part of the install of web service runtime need to be selected.  Does any other additional product have to be installed such as web components etc.

    Thanks,
    Carlos

    Without some pictures of your setup, its hard for me to envision how you have things set up.  Here's a shot of the services on our box which are working:

    Dynamics GP Web Services

    As per the setup information, if you have it running there are a couple of addresses local to the server hosting Web Services which can help you verify that the services are up and running.

    A few things;
    • The installer should log in with AD rights to the GP Web Services Server with Admin rights to the server.
    • Also that same installer's AD account must be added to SQL (Windows AD Account) with the sysadmin role.
    • I am assuming the GP Web Services Server and the SQL Server are separate machines here.
    Have a AD Service account ready to plug in during the installation. From the documentation...
    Service user account
    The Microsoft Dynamics GP Service Host is the Windows service that hosts the various services that are part of Web Services for Microsoft Dynamics GP. The
    Microsoft Dynamics GP Service Host service must run under a user account. To make the service more secure, a specific "service user account" should be created and used only for this purpose.
    ***
    Additionally I saw a weird issue a few years back on SQL, in the Web Services database. It should only have the AD access and should not have any SQL local users. The DynamicsGPSecurity database stores only the internal Security for GP Web Services. There is no user readable information in this database and there is no reason to grant additional access to this database. Having both will cause GP Web Services a number of issues.

    The one I saw was
    Exception type: Microsoft.Dynamics.Security.InvalidSecurityContextException

    Exception message: System.InvalidOperationException : The Authorization Manager store could not be created.

    When all else fails, or before (grin), check the Windows Event logs for hints as to the cause. There are additional nodes specifically for Dynamics and eConnect under "Applications and Service Logs".

    Ok, here is last one. Check the Web Services Prerequisites. The basics will get you sometimes.

    Guys thanks for you help the error was a result of the October 2019 update.  A hotfix was released that took care of the problem please see link below for explaination.

    https://community.dynamics.com/gp/f/microsoft-dynamics-gp-forum/375005/gp-web-services-18-2-october-2019-release-does-not-start

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/northamerica/GP/downloads/service-packs/mdgp2018_webservices_servicepackshotfixes

    I had to download hotfix, then rerun the Web Service configuration.
