Workflow Error on Test Company

We created a test company to facilitate user testing on requisition workflow.  The critical piece of the workflow is email approvals,  The Test E-Mail Action show successful on Workflow set-up.  Emails are delivered to the task owner also. When processing the emails, the following error is returned.
    Request Error
The server encountered and error process the request. See server logs for more details

The logs were unclear.  There we some indication of issues with stored procedures not being found. However, we could no locate these stored procedure in a separate test environment that is working properly.
    1. TEST.dbo.zDP_gpAppEnbSS_1
    2. TEST.dbo.zDP_MinPONumF_1

The email action works properly on our production company but not on the test company.  We think this has to do with the set-up of the test company - new for us.  We've looked at some of the inquires and solutions in the broader community. They do not seem to apply.

Has anyone had experience setting up workflow across multiple companies? Any experience with this type of error?

    We're on GP2018.

    Thanks
    Keith

    Hi @Keith Paul

Your best bet is to make sure your "Test Environment" is an exact replica of your Production Environment.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Environment", but if it is a completely different server you'll need to make sure the entire thing is exactly like production.

If it is a test company on your live server, a backup of your production company restored on the test company will work (Don't forget to run the INTERID script).

Let us know more details on how the "Test Environment" is setup for more detailed help.

    Hello Keith,

If you're seeing a 'server encountered and error process the request' message when users attempt to take action (approve, reject) workflows through email notifications sent to the approvers, you'll want to check Web Services for Dynamics GP that is what is behind those action links in the email.

To verify Web Services is working/installed successfully, you can use the following:

    1. Verify that you can successfully access these four URLs:

         a. http://<webservername>:48620/Dynamics/GPService     ----> this is the endpoint URL behind the workflow action links in the emails.....

         b. http://<webservername>:48620/DynamicsGPWebServices

         c. http://<webservername>:48620/DynamicsSecurityService

         d. http://<webservername>:48621/

Note: Replace <webservername> with the actual server name that Web Services for Dynamics GP 2015 is installed onto. Port 48620 and 48621 are default and could possibly be different on your machine if changed during installation.

Note2: In each of these pages, there will be a wsdl link(s), clicking on them should take you to an XML page.

    2. If you can access these URLs without error, then launch the Dynamics Security Console under Control Panel > Administrative Tools:

NOTE: You'll need to be logged on as a Security Admin for Web Services to have access to the Dynamics Security Console and Exceptions Console.

         a. On the right-hand side, click on 'Select Applications'. A small window showing 'Dynamics GP Web Services' marked inside should show. Click OK on this window.

         b. On the left-hand side of the Dynamics Security Console, expand 'Dynamics GP Web Services'

         c. Click on 'Policy' and verify that you can see a list of policies in the middle pane without any errors.

         d. Click on 'Entity ID Assignments' and verify that no error shows in the middle pane of the Console. Try adding a Salesperson, sales territory, Customer, Vendor, etc., just to verify that Web Services can pull the company information from Dynamics GP. You don't have to actually create the entity ID.

    3. Lastly, in Control Panel > Administrative Tools, launch the Dynamics GP Web Services Exceptions Console and verify you can click on both the 'System' and 'Validation' exceptions link without seeing any errors in the middle pane of the Console.

If everything looks correct via the above checks, then we also need to make sure the company database that you're working with Workflow in, has Web Services installed onto it, which you can verify by running the following script against your DYNAMICS/system database:

           Select * from WSInstallStatus

The DYNAMICS/system database will have 5 records in this table and the company database(s) will have 4. The status should show as 0 (zero) for each loader record and the version should be the same version as what your Dynamics GP is currently on.

If the company database you're trying to work with Workflow and approve workflows through email notifications doesn't show as having Web Services installed on it, you can run the Web Services Configuration Wizard to add the company database(s) needed.

Lastly, make sure the approvers are logged onto the machine, when attempting to take action on workflows through email, as the exact Windows account that is assigned the workflow, just like they would need to be if approving through the Dynamics GP application itself, otherwise you'll see this type of error message show.

    Hopefully this will help....

    Thanks

Thanks for the guidance.  Our IT team is stepping through the advice and is keeping me posted.  Once they're complete, I'll know if we can resume user testing and move to production.

    Thanks,
    Keith

Success!  Thanks all. We followed the steps and were able to identify the gaps and what needed to be fixed. We uncovered a repair that needed to be made to the Web Service, which when made allowed us to run the configuration wizard to add the test company.  Email actions now work. We can continue with our User Testing.

    Regards,
    Keith
