FA 15 Minutes to Save Record

  • 1.  FA 15 Minutes to Save Record

I'm not sure where to start with troubleshooting this issue.  I have a user who logs into GP 2016 in the morning then starts entering manual Fixed Asset records.  The first record of the day takes around 15 minutes to save.  After that first record she's fine for the rest of the day.  Next day she has the same issue.  Anyone else run into this issue?

    Hi @Brenda Rogers

There are a few questions before we can really troubleshoot:

    How is she opening GP?
    • Is it an "App" that is not directly installed on her computer
    • Is it installed on her computer directly
    • Is it installed on a shared Terminal Server that she is opening through a Remote Desktop Connection
    • Is it deployed some other way not listed above?

Is she the only user that is slow first thing in the morning?

    Hello @Jo deRuiter
Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. Holidays really threw everyone off. Anyway, I'm back to looking at this issue again. To answer your questions... We all access GP on a shared Terminal Server using RDP. I just sat with the user a few minutes ago and found out that our whole FA group has experienced this issue and it's been going on forever. I'm new in this support role and they decided to bring it to my attention. It does not matter what time a day the first record is added, it is taking around 15 minutes to save it once they have inputted the record. Another thing I found out while I sat with them is that the problem seems to alternate between being slow on the save or slow when the click on the "Go To" button. It's a really odd problem to troubleshoot. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello @Jo deRuiter - I'm looking into this again.  I was wondering if you have any insight into this issue.  All of our FA people have this issue.  Whoever inputs the first asset of the day has to wait a long time for it to save.  We all access GP through a remote desktop.  We're on GP2016.  Could their be some sort of caching issue??

    Hi Brenda,

Can you tell me about the different add-ins you have with GP?

So, I'm a bit new in this role but I'll take my best stab at answering your question.  We use Metaviewer, Mekorma, and RegalPay.  We call these "Bolt On" Applications so I'm not sure if they qualify as an add-in.  We use Integration Manager to load data into the GL and FA.  If there is somewhere specific I can go to view add-ins then please let me know and I'll search them out.

    Hi Brenda,

No worries - this is the best way for you to learn.  All questions are good questions.

It seems like you are not the only one with this issue, a few thoughts come to mind:

    - Do you have a UAT or DEV environment you can hack around in?
    - Are there any database monitoring tools, to identify any issues?  You could have a look at this as well.
    - Do you use integration manager for any other processes?   Is it performing okay?

This happens to me every month when I add the fixed assets.  It doesn't matter what time of day it is.  It usually speeds up as I go along with adding assets.  The first one is always super slow.

There was another post about this I think about a month ago.  I have 5 books that auto-add.  I am on GP 2015.
