    That's one of those three-word headlines that shake the world!

    Just learned from @Windi Epperson at the GP Tech Conference in Fargo, that the wonderful @Leslie Vail is retiring. Windi posted a photo of the PowerPoint slide announcing it. The slide had a URL that turned out to be an online scrapbook of pictures of Leslie and all the GP people she encountered over the years. I am fortunate to have known her and to have learned from her.

    I am so happy that you are sharing this with the GP community.  Leslie has contributed so much of her personal time and is a very good friend.  The photos in the book were contributed from many of her peers and some date back to 2001.

    If you want to order your own photo book make sure to pay attention to the discount offers available.  It was my honor to create this book for @Leslie Vail. Enjoy the trip down memory lane.  💕

    From time to time I think about the forces that keep everything moving in our universe, Leslie is just such a force. Thanks for all you have done. I have heard her demystify GP to large groups at GPUG SUMMITS, other times she has changed the course of development where I work. And at all times straight forward and reasonable. She wears a cape because that is what superheroes do. Thanks.

    Thank you @Steve Erbachfor posting this here on GPUG.

    I learned it too from my Twitter feed that had retired (officially on Jan. 1st already), but was attending #GPTechConf for the last time... I was so sad that I hadn't been able to make the trip to Fargo this year, but I'll hope that she'll make another trip to Orlando next month.

    I've fond memories with Leslie, some of them going back in Fargo in 2011 when I was able to attend GP Tech days for the 1st time. It was in the freezing cold March time and she knows what I'm talking about :-)

    I'm going to miss her like everyone else in the community and I hope she'll still enjoy some nice time in her retirement years. Reminds me of another fellow MVP @Frank Hamelly, who silently just moved away from the community into retirement without making much noise after many years of great help in the community.

    One of my greatest memory is the moment Leslie heard @Bob McAdam announce her name as a winner of All*Star in 2017 in Nashville. Though I knew she was going to be called, she was completely dived into her laptop has she had some troubles with her Win10 and I was trying to help her get it fixed before the first session... Watch this video around 0:40 when she suddenly hears her name called out!

    It was captured by @David Musgrave 's camera who knew too that she was being called soon, so he made it as discrete as possible :-)

    Well-deserved retirement Leslie! I hope to meet you again soon and have good times together.
    B@

    @Beat Bucher,

    Excellent post for an excellent lady. @Leslie Vail always treated me with consideration, humor, and respect. I asked if I could take pictures of her at my first Summit (St. Louis 2014):

    (I'm not the greatest photographer!)

    I took a Report Writer course from Leslie that year. She was the first of three terrific GP experts to help me understand RW. (The others? @David Musgrave and @Mark Wiley ... I needed a lot of help!)

    Leslie also allowed me to wear her trademark cape and hat at Summit in Tampa 2016:

    Leslie even allowed me to wear them during the "GPUG Idol" competition that year (in which I was crushed by
    @Shawn Dorward, MVP).

    But this is my favorite picture of Leslie and me (from Tampa 2016):

    Leslie has a million-watt smile!

    My friend, @Steve Burney, already posted the pic of the two of us and Leslie in our GPUG Medic coats at Phoenix last year. That pose with Steve and me caused Leslie to quip (paraphrasing): "I couldn't even get my husbands to kneel!"

    A couple years ago I thought it might help me get answers to some tough GP questions if I offered a more tangible recognition to the folks who answered my GPUG Forum posts. I created the LESLIE Badge. I've awarded variants of the badge to a number of people in the past couple of years (including @Amber Bell, @David Musgrave,
    @Kristen Hosman, @Derek Krebs, and @Barbara Gavron) ... but I reserved the best one for Leslie herself: the Rainbow LESLIE badge:

    I will miss Leslie very much.

    Sincerely,

    About 20 years ago I was working as a receptionist at "Great Plains" partner. I had some accounting experience and had taken the job at the GP partner to possibly join their programming team (that is what I was going to school to learn). This was during the crazy "dot com" days and they merged with another company and used some of the "dot com" investment money to fly Leslie to sunny San Diego to teach a group of us about GP. That foundation of training is something I think about every time I work with a new client. @Leslie Vail made learning fun and made it seem accessible (if that makes any sense). She has an amazing gift for making complicated processes digestible.

    I was able to attend her last session at #GPTechConf this year in Fargo. I can attest that to the last minute of that class she was sharing so many amazing tips and tricks and just couldn't stop giving her gifts of knowledge and experience.

    Leslie's legacy is one of sharing knowledge. She knows that education makes us all stronger. I am sure she has many new adventures ahead. I am just so thankful I had a chance to see her sparkle in person at so many pivotal moments in my life. Seriously, she changed the course of my career and life and I couldn't be more thankful.

    I third that! @Leslie Vail was kind enough to let me call her and she walked me through revamping our account structure. After she explained the complex steps she then took the extra time to ask me if there was anything else that she could help with. That was the first year that I nominated someone for GPUG All-Star. I was actually shocked that she wasn't one already because she was so deserving. Congratulations Leslie and thank you for all of the vast knowledge that you so willingly shared. Truly a special lady!
