Purchasing Module - Slow Performance/Freezes/Errors

  • 1.  Purchasing Module - Slow Performance/Freezes/Errors

    Posted 14 days ago
    Hello,
We connect to GP via Remote App.

Over the past couple of months, whenever we are going through the process of posting batches, building batches, printing checks and running EFTs,and when it comes to reports for each step, it is taking an extremely long time to process.  Also, there are times when we are in the middle of a process that we receive errors or GP freezes completely.  At times, this results in voiding of checks because of the freeze, etc.

Is anyone else experiencing this and if so, have you found a solution.

    Please HELP!

    Thank you,
    Shelley

    Hi Shelley,
This is very hard to diagnose on the simple statement that you use GP thru RDP.. You don't say much about the rest of the setup (network, number of RDP users, server infrastructure, etc.).
There are so many factors that can play into the game, that this is very difficult to help in detail. We could only provide some general guidance without knowing more in depth.
How long have you been using GP (amount of data accumulated) ? How many users are accessing the system simultaneously. ? What other processes might be running at the same time when batches are posted ?
I've another client that encounters similar issues with their TS / RDP setup, and there are only about 4-5 GP users at max. But posting a batch may result in GP freezing and/or the session closing on the users.. Though we haven't found out yet the true problem, I suspect network performances, as they do access RDP into the GP application over a WAN connection, which could be a problem when it comes to print reports, as RDP by default links the local printer queues with the TS application server.

Thank you!  These are some great questions, and I'm going to send this to the appropriate person and see what I can find out.  There are only 3 of us that are utilizing the purchasing module.  Accounting does not seem to be experiencing as many issues within the Financial module, so that much we have pinned down.  We just upgraded last November from 2012 I believe to 2018. I just started using GP this past January and it was running better, but within the last two months, it is just horrible.  It is totally affecting our flow in the AP department.  I will be in touch.

    Shelley,

Are you using Mekorma's MICR ?

OUr company just performed an upgrade of GP to 2016 R2 and we had been using Mekorma's Micr for printing checks. We had no freezing problems when on GP 2010 R2 but when we upgraded to 2016, that is when the horrors began.

After uninstalling all my 3rd party apps and working in GP and adding the 3rd party apps one at a time, I found that Mekroma was the culprit. After installing Mekorma, things began to slow down and freeze quickly.

After calling Mekorma, they told me this was a known issue with their Multi Batch Processing which we do not use however it is installed when using Mekorma Micr. Apparently the Multi Batch processing logs every transaction to a SQL table that originates in the AP module thus causing users in AP to feel the performance degradation and not any other module in GP.

I was instructed to create a SQL job to delete the Multi Batch processing log table and schedule it to run every so many minutes as to not cause the freeze. the tables and SQL commands are below:

    Truncate table MPP71508;
    Truncate table MPP71509

Hope this helps!! Keep us informed! I'm curious to know if this helps.

    Hi Curtis,
    Yes, we are.

This is very helpful, I will pass this along.

Is GP running back to normal now?

    Thank you,

    Hi Shelley,

Yes, after creating SQL job and scheduling it to delete the tables I mentioned every few minutes, the AP department immediately saw a huge difference. We have over 25 AP reps and 69 GP users so you can imagine how quickly the log tables I sent you fill up.

I would even run the statements I sent you now to truncate (delete) the records from these log tables and test this out.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

One last thing, If you need to confirm or have Mekroma walk you through this, call and ask for Krista.
She is the only one that was able to assist with this as no other Mekorma support rep new the issue.

Hi @Curtis Cruz, @Shelley Kirk, and @Beat Bucher, please go to our website and download the latest build for your corresponding version of Dynamics GP. This build addresses the MPP table issues and also optimizes the login process as it relates to our software. Please let me know if you are still running into any issues after applying this build.

Also, please note than EZ Print is not supported in terminal services environments. You can disable EZ Print in Terminal Server by editing the corresponding group policy (gpedit.msc):

    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Printer Redirection

I can concur with @Curtis Cruz on this one.. I too noticed issues after upgrades of the Mekorma products.
Annoyingly, the older releases of Mekorma would allow you to select which product you wanted to install in GP.. more recently, however they changed the setup application and now it's an all-or-nothing installation, which means you don't have a choice and need all the modules along with Mekorma (4 or 5), even if you don't use them.
I even recently noticed GP logon / logoff slowdowns with the most recent builds, but was told that Mekorma was aware of that and worked on fixes. That was about 1-2 months back. The slowdowns would completely disappear when Mekorma products would be removed from the client.

    Hi @Shelley Kirk

This could be the result of many, many things.

It could  be and is likely the configuration of your Remote App environment and how it is "talking" to the SQL server.  It could be how the remote app was deployed, your internet/network connection etc.

Do you have any further details on your environment you could share?

Additionally, you mention the last couple of months... did anything change in your GP environment a couple of months ago?

    Hi Jo,

The only change that occurred within the last couple of months was our servers going down, completely, companywide.

This has been resolved and fixed, but GP was not.  We are back to running like we were before this time.

    Thank you,
    Shelley

    Shelley,
This no longer sounds like a Mekorma issue. In your initial post you mentioned GP freezing and errors, but I did not see a screenshot or reference of the errors you mentioned. Typically, prior to fixing the performance issue we had, you'd simple experience delay, but this would not lead errors. Our processes would still complete. It sounds to me you are running into something else, assuming you have already updated your Mekorma software to the latest build as I instructed in my previous reply.

The question to you is, what changed in your environment *on or before* you started getting these errors? Did you apply a Windows Update, did you upgrade GP to version 2018? If so, what version did you upgrade from? If you did perform an upgrade, was your server capacity revisited? Feel free to reach out to me directly at mariano@mekorma.com

    Hi Shelly,
There is a known performance issue in the purchasing module in GP2018 RTM that is resolved in GP2018R2. I just bumped into it for a customer last week. Updating to GP2018 R2 resolves it.

Here's a reference to the fix:
    https://community.dynamics.com/gp/f/32/t/277512

It may be worth taking a look at updating if you are not already on the latest release.

    Hi Shelley,

Yes, if you did not update the Mekorma software as Mariano suggested,  and you instead followed my steps to delete the MPP tables in the DYNAMICS database, is this delete (Truncate) on a scheduled job to delete records from this table often.

I have schedule set to Truncate data every 1 minute, not sure if you're doing the same.
