    Hello,

I'm looking to increase my skill set in Great Plains.  I'm not looking to replace our var but I would like to be able to handle tier 1 and tier 2 support.  What are some resources to learn how to support Great Plains? I know a lot of the basics and I have been doing support it for years but I want to get better.  Are there specific books or videos or certifications I could get.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Subscribe to the Dynamics Learning Portal (DLP) there are courses (basic and advanced) as well as certifications paths.

@Michael Bender I would highly suggest looking at the available Academy classes. Find a couple areas such as AP, AR, security, etc. that you would like to dig deeper into. Also, remember that all of the webinars on here are FREE. There are thousands of recordings available to all of us that cover everything from how to process a sales order to setting up a new user to creating a SSRS report.

Scanning/Reading the manuals cover to cover today, and six months from now, tends to work pretty well.
Do it right before you go to sleep, it is a sure cure for insomnia.
Back around version 5 or 6 Great Plains put out a series of training manuals,
these were the original source for some internal training materials I had developed,
    which I am attaching.
Please update them for the features that have been added since then, and the new windows, deleting our corporate logos,
and share them again for everyone else.

    Hi Michael,

You should definitely come to GPUG Summit, you will learn far more than the cost of travel and the expense of the conference.

I am putting on a pre-conference academy training that will be extremely valuable:

Administering Dynamics GP I (4 Hours) - This course will cover the fundamentals of GP SysAdmin - Administer user security, install new GP workstations, troubleshoot issues with existing client installs, fix stuck batches, and review the common responsibilities of a GP Admin including SQL backups, maintenance, and security.

Administering Dynamics GP II  (4 Hours) - We will review all the advanced components of GP - including web services, econnect, ODATA, workflow, and Management Reporter.  We will look at security within those modules and how to install/troubleshoot those components.     Note: although this class covers some "Developer related" items (eConnect and Web Services), the intended audience is a GP SysAdmin, not a developer.  We will not be writing or deploying any actual code during the class.

Upgrading Dynamics GP - We will walk you through the upgrade process from start to finish, including gathering your requirements, identifying and avoiding common pitfalls of upgrading, identifying key stakeholders, proper planning and preparation, troubleshooting, and we will actually do a quick upgrade during the class.  This class is intended for: GP Sysadmins, project managers responsible for an upgrade project, and key stakeholders who want to learn more about the upgrade process.

Let me know if you have questions about these classes.  I also offer them remotely, and you can reach out directly to me via IM if you're not able to attend the conference in Phoenix this October.

^^Yes! Summit!^^  There are many paths that you can follow at Summit and "Tier 1 & Tier 2 support" is certainly one of them.

Also, having a development or test environment along with some spare time to go in and try out different things is always good as well!
