Can manual checks be backdated in GP 2018?

If you're talking about payroll checks, then yes they can be back dated.  If you're going back to a prior period you'll want to make sure GL is open for that period to allow posting.  If you're going back to a prior year, same thing - GL period must be open and GL setup must have the option checked to allow prior year posting.
    Thanks

    Hi Windi,

Yes, I'm talking about manual payroll checks. Manual checks for tax , and wage adjustments due to over-payments.

We are working to align our processes from payroll to GL/ accounting and were not sure the impact of back dating a manual payroll check due to the scenario listed above. I would assume once the back dated manual check was posted GL will receive the adjustment within the correct period.

    Thank you

In the manual check window you have a check date and a posting date - so in theory, you could back date the check (payroll) side and let the adjustment hit the GL in the current period, but I suspect your GL folks will want the adjustment to hit the proper period in the GL as well so using the same posting date as check date will send the adjustment to that same period in the GL.
    Hope that makes sense :)
