Yes, I'm talking about manual payroll checks. Manual checks for tax , and wage adjustments due to over-payments.
We are working to align our processes from payroll to GL/ accounting and were not sure the impact of back dating a manual payroll check due to the scenario listed above. I would assume once the back dated manual check was posted GL will receive the adjustment within the correct period.

If you're talking about payroll checks, then yes they can be back dated. If you're going back to a prior period you'll want to make sure GL is open for that period to allow posting. If you're going back to a prior year, same thing - GL period must be open and GL setup must have the option checked to allow prior year posting.
