Anyone have any experience with this product? What is your opinion as compared to GP?  Any major quirks with  FA, Bank Rec, Payables, GL, Reporting, Budgeting, etc. We do not have any customers so no need for Sales, Mfg., or inventory. Payroll is taken care of.  Please share any insights or resources. Thank you so much.

It's a different product entirely and as of right now there is no migration path.  If you're on GP and want to move to BC, it will be a new implementation and data will have to be integrated into that new platform.

BC is like many accounting platforms with standard functionality.  The only way to see if it is a viable product for you is to take the time to set it up in a test environment with your data and your processes and run things for a couple of months for comparison.  This will help you build a case for whether or not the time and effort to move to BC justifies the costs.  And don't forget retraining and other reliant systems - including reporting!

No company uses their accounting system the exact same way as another.  Take your time and do your homework so you can make an educated decision.  Accounting systems form the backbone of most companies.  Changing them out is an involved process not to be undertaken on a whim.

Great information Blair. I have watched a few demonstrations and am intrigued. I have a year to make a decision so plenty of time to do additional research. Hopefully, I will get some more feedback from the Community.

Thank you so much for your response.

    Hi @Denise McCaughan

I second what @Blair Christensen said.

Having your accounting 'in the cloud' actually gives you LESS control than you have now, but most importantly is what he said about it being an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PRODUCT.

Many partners are telling GP Users that D365 is an 'upgrade' from GP.  This is untrue.  It is an entirely different product and the effort would be the same if you switched to Oracle or SAP, a new platform a new everything and so a long and detailed project would ensue to move your data from GP to D365.

It IS a great product, but be prepared that you will need to budget for it as if it is a brand-new implementation and most GP users are happy enough with the awesome capabilities of GP.  GP Remains one of THE most capable ERP products on the marked and it's capabilities are much MORE than D365 right now.

You are able to deploy GP as a cloud product through VPN or even Citrix so you should not think that just because it resides on a server you own that it can't be deployed for remote working.

I would say that if you want a more typically 'cloud-based' application that is still GP and since your use of GP is minimal that NJevity's Power GP Online product is a great choice. And the move to that would be MUCH less cost than moving to D365.

@Brianne van Reenen might be able to help with that.

Hi Jo. The move would definitely not be cost effective. I am checking out a couple of other products as well (specifically for small governments) and I have some time to make an informed decision. Thank you so much for the information. You have given me some more to think about.
    Sincerely,
    Denise

    Thanks, @Jo deRuiter!

@Denise McCaughan We'd be happy to help answer any questions you have about going to the cloud with Dynamics GP.

To Jo and Blair's points, you could keep all of your current ISVs with PowerGP Online. Actually, you retain all of the capabilities from Dynamics GP on-premise - and we have added modules to bring you even more features than what is in Dynamics GP. While you're searching, here's a quick read with 5 Top Questions to ask any cloud provider you engage with. Security is a big focus, but there are other points as well.

Feel free to send me a message or email me at bvanreenen@njevity.com if I can help with anything else .
