SmartList issue

    Greetings!  (My organization just recently joined GPUG and this is my first post to the forum!)

    We are on GP2015 and on occasion experience a situation where the SmartList window doesn't open in front when selected.  You end up having to choose maximize from the taskbar.

    Has anyone had that same issue?  If so, can you advise how you addressed it?

    Hi Kathy,

    I have had this happen to me in the past. One thing I noticed, is the SmartList window has a mind of its own when it is not maximized when closing the window. The window has has gone above the screen line where I can't access the minimize, maximize, and close tabs. It has hidden behind windows. Been minimized, and so on. Another thing you could look at if you're working with multiple monitors, is to see if there is a display setting that needs to be changed (not sure if that will actually help). But try maximizing the window before you close it out.

    The smartlist window is indeed very frisky.

    If you right click on the GP icon in your taskbar, right click the thumbnail/image (W10) of the smartlist window, and then select "move", you can either use the arrow keys to move the window around and/or sometimes the mouse pointer will allow you to drag the screen back on to your main desktop.

    I don't know where it flies off to but it certainly leaves the workable space, even on multi screen setups.

    Hi Kathy,

    Similar to what Keith said, I left click on the missing window from the task bar.  This sets focus to it, but you can't see it.   Then, without using your mouse, hit Alt+SpaceBar to pop up the Move/Resize/Min/Max menu on the window.  Hit the down arrow on your keyboard until move is highlighted.  Once it is highlighted, hit the enter key.  Then you can use the arrow keys to move the window back into view.   Move the window opposite of where the menu was displayed.  If it's displayed on the left edge of the window, you need to hit the right arrow key to move it to the right.  If the window is to the top left or top right, you may have to do this a couple of times till you see it.

    This method will work with any window.  I like it because it also works with windows that can't be maximized.

    If you have GP Power Tools, there is a feature in the Administrator Settings.
    Check the box "Prevent application windows from opening outside of the visible desktop area".

    We use to have this problem all the time. This setting has eliminated that common support call.

    Hey @Kathy Newhouse

    The great workarounds below seem to be if the window is opening between screens or is some how just not appearing.  What I am reading is that it is appearing, just not "in front" of GP when you open it.

    If this is the case, I have a question, is your Dynamics GP Locally installed or is it an app that is deployed onto your computer?

    If you go to C:\Program Files (X86)\Microsoft Dynamics\.....  is anything there on your machine?​

    We have had several occasions in the past 2-3 years where SmartList will act like it's opening and just "not".  After researching I came across this article and I saved the info because it seems to happen periodically.  I'm not sure if this is related to what you are currently experiencing but thought I would post it here in the event others might look for it in GPUG.

    It's a simple fix - you just go and run the SQL statement they recommend against the DynamicsDB and all is well again.

    We started experiencing the issue when we were on GP2013.  We upgraded to 2018 earlier this year and it still happens occasionally for no reason.  I tell my users that Dynamics just had a brainfart and all is well.
