Outsourcing 1099's for 2020

    With the change to 1099's for the reporting year 2020, I am wondering how many folks are on GP 2015 or earlier and what your plans are in regard to reporting Non-Employee Compensation. I am interested in hearing your thoughts and recommendations.
    1) Do you plan to upgrade to take advantage of the new reporting that is (or will be) available for GP2016 or later?
    2) Or do you plan to outsource your 1099 reporting? If so, have you made your selection as to what vendor you will use for this? I am weighing the options and would like to make a list of the 3rd party vendors who offer this service.
    3) Have you thought of another option that you would like to share?

    The requirements for reporting NEC have changed:

    1099-NEC: File Copy A of this form with the IRS by February 1, 2021 (which is the same day that they are due to the recipients).

    Many companies are used to having some time in between the sending of the 1099's to their vendors and when they need to report to the IRS. Please make sure you address this well in advance of these new requirements, so you are not in a bad spot come February 1, 2021. Consider reaching out to your GP partner soon to make a plan so you are not caught up in a bad situation at crunch time.

    @Barbara Gavron,

    We are currently in the midst of testing upgrading from GP2015R2, but also have been using Greenshades for 1099 submitting for the past few years. With the changes for the 1099, I am working to get the upgrade done sooner than later.  But that was already on my To Do List for this year.

    @Barbara Gavron,

    At Berger we outsourced the 1099 process a long time ago as we had contractors that we did not/and do not track in GP that we needed to send 1099's to. So we use Sovos right now.

    Check out W-2 Mate:  https://www.realtaxtools.com/
    We use this often because Greenshades doesn't do special formatting that Oklahoma requires for electronic submission.  It is really easy to use and is really inexpensive.
    Thanks
