New G/L Account Card didn't set the ACCTTYPE column

    Dear Collaborators,

We're testing the POP module in our TEST company as we get it up-to-snuff. Our CFO added a new inventory account the way we usually do in Account Maintenance:

    1. Type in new Account number
    2. Type in a Description
    3. Pick a Category

...and Save. Well, the CFO said that there was a bit of a glitch that occurred while he was entering that new Account. He was able to save it... but he couldn't retrieve it to the Account Maintenance screen after that. He'd type in the new Account number and hit Tab, and he'd get the message:

This Account is not a Posting Account.

...and nothing would appear in Account Maintenance.

I looked at the account in SQL Server Management Studio and saw that the ACCTTYPE column was set to 0... which isn't one of the codes for that column (1-4). So I updated the code in the back end, since I couldn't get at it from the UI. That allowed me to retrieve it in Account Maintenance and delete it.

So, that "bit of a glitch" was GP juggling its connection to the SQL database, I'm guessing, and it dropped a stitch when saving that new Account, yes?

    Sincerely,

That's a good explanation if you're unable to recreate the issue.  If you can recreate it, I would run a Dex SQL log next.

@Steve Erbach, is it possible that it was set up as a Unit Account or an Allocation Account?

    @Lou Spevack,

Since we've never had the problem before (0 in the ACCTTYPE column) I wouldn't want to try to re-create it. It's one of those deals where a bit of behind-the-scenes work in GP made the account "visible" to the UI again.

    Hi, @Barbara Gavron,

Since it was our CFO that did it, I wouldn't dream of suggesting that he might have fat-fingered something in the menus!

But even if he had, the fact that the ACCTTYPE column wasn't set to any of the four valid values (1-Posting, 2-Unit, 3-Posting Allocation, or 4-Unit Allocation account) tells me that there must have been a hiccough in the SQL connection at the moment of saving the new account. Since IANAANDIPOOT (I Am Not An Accountant Nor Do I Play One On Tv) I conclude from an examination of the GP menus that the Account Type (ACCTTYPE) is determined by the Cards menu selection.

Manually changing the ACCTTYPE to a valid value allowed me to delete it through the UI... et voilà! Ze problem, she is solved!

    Regards,

This keeps happening for us when we use Integration Manager. Did you ever get to the root cause?
