Is there a standard Azure configuration when your looking to deploy a very simple instance of GP for demo/test purposes in Azure?

    Hi Rich,
    not anymore unfortunately..
Microsoft's GP team in Fargo used to maintain a template of GP 2015 available from the Azure VM Store to quickly deploy a demo.. as it replaced the usual multi-GB download they used to provide to partners from Partner Source.. which no longer exists.
The last time I was able to use the template for GP 2015 in Azure was in 2018.. but maybe if you check back, there might still be one available.
Be aware that it was built on a pre-release GP 2015 RTM and that upgrading it caused me several issues, as it would fail in multiple ways.. It wasn't meant to be upgraded, just to demo GP.
But you can use the basis to simply deploy the latest GP 18.2 without any issues.. just scrap the 2015 setup. Everything else is configured, even a Domain "Fargo" to be able to deploy MR 2012 and the web client.

To complete on my previous reply..
My last Azure VM I built for GP was based on the Power BI template that Microsoft provides in Azure..
When you're in the process of creating a new VM, just click on "Browse all public & private images" and this opens a catalog of all standard images available.. just type in "Windows 2019 power BI" and should get something like this :

This VM is already equiped with SQL server and all the tools (including Power BI Desktop), so you can just add your GP on it.
Otherwise, just pull any regular SQL server template that MS provides in the Catalog.

In case this can help, I found out that I wrote a blog post a couple years back on how to clone your own VM Disk in Azure to start with a new VM
