Modify Reference Field for General Journal Entry

I use an Integration Manager process to get our fixed asset additions into our GL each month. The short version of the process is this: Copy data from an Excel file, into a text file. Integration Manager then uses this text file to import journal entries.

I'm noticing that the temp we used over my maternity leave had an error in the Excel file from which data was copied into the text file, so I've got 40ish entries with a reference that appears like the Excel formula itself, and not the result. See the pic below. Is there a way to modify this reference field after the fact so that it appears correctly on inquiry windows, SmartLists, reports, etc? I'm assuming it needs to be done within the tables, but will doing so make the change throughout GP?

Is this something a PowerUser like myself can do or is it risky and I should just leave well enough alone? Having the reference fields as is will make SmartList inquiries down the line useless essentially.

This change needs to be made via SQL queries.

It is a fairly simple SQL script.  When I've updated SQL tables - always backup the DB - I find the DEX ID, run a select statement with the appropriate WHERE clause to ensure you are modifying the records you intend to update.  Saying that, I rarely do this any longer.  We back-out the JEs and post them again.  I think that's the safest way to handle.
