GP SmartList Corrupted?

I'm working with a client who, it appears, has some #SmartList corruption.  Several users are OK, but several have lost their favorites, or the columns are incorrect - in one instance, an AR Aged SmartList should return 30-60-90 day columns but now shows address columns.
Other users were OK.  I backed up their ASIEXP81 and ASIEXP86 tables from a backup they knew was correct, and the AR report columns are now correct, but other user's SmartLists are broken - so I reverted from my backup tables.  I did have the users clear their %temp% environment, but it made no difference.
They did create a new test company and restored a backup of live to it on Tuesday, but no problems were reported Wednesday.  They believe Thursday morning was OK, but users were reporting SmartList problems Thursday afternoon and all day Friday.
Can anyone shed light on what might be going on, or scripts I can use to debug the problem?
As always, thanks in advance for any replies.

Charles, you don't say what version of GP or Smartlist Builder or Smartlist Designer they are on.
However, I think you might want to try using the maintenance tools for Smartlist Builder after taking a backup if available.
I would run each of Refresh Cache, Refresh Lists and Create Views.
Then see if the problem persists.

    Hey @Charles Ray
We've seen this often if you have SmartList Builder installed.  If someone opens a native SmartList and then clicks modify, it will add an item in SmartList Builder under the Existing type with the same name and an * out beside it.

If you delete the option in SmartList Builder with the * beside it, it will restore you to the default and your favorites will come back.

Of course, you probably want to ask around first to see who made the change and what they made so you can go into SmartList Builder after it's fixed and create a new object from scratch.

If you don't own SmartList Builder, just ignore me :)
    Thanks
