SOOO I have been tasked to make changes in field level security - I am able to disable the Save button in the Vendor Maintenance screen, but if user hits the X button to close the menu they get the prompt to Save  Discard  Cancel  where or what is the window/field name in Field level security to do disable the Save?

    Thanks so much!!

    Hi @Angela Harris

You can indeed make the Vendor Maintenance 'Read Only' by just using the Vendor Inquiry instead of the "Card".  You can even grant security to only the Vendor Inquiry.

In Vendor Inquiry they can see the main address and the header info along with the Vendor Options, but cannot see the accounts, etc.

    Hi,

Jo's absolutely correct with her comments on using the Vendor Inquiry as the "read only" version of the vendor maintenance card.

We often have people say they need information that is not available on that inquiry screen (payment terms for example).  In those cases, we recommend using Modifier to add the necessary fields to the read only window or utilizing SmartList or some other accessible report for the additional information.

With regard to your original question, I've not had much luck with Field level security on the type of pop up box you're talking about.  However, you could build a dexterity customization using GP Power Tools that always clicked "discard" when that box appeared.

If you don't have GP Power Tools (though I'd strongly recommend it), you could achieve something similar with VBA, but you need to be aware that VBA is not compatible with Windows Server 2019 nor does it work with the Web Client.

Does that make sense?  If you have questions, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Samantha

    Hi Angela,
You can't disable that pop-up as it's part of the core dexterity code that handles any changes to a form that you can update/delete content from.. But as Jo suggested, you should redirect the users to the 'view-only' form version (inquiry) if you don't want them to perform any changes on the actual data.
Field Level security isn't meant to protect a full 'card' GP form to prevent users make any changes to it, but only to target some specific fields that are critical. For this you better shoudl ajust GP security and remove access from 'Card' forms to the users if you don't want them to do any changes.

    Hi @Angela Harris

GP Power Tools - Developer Tools Module can both dismiss that dialog, or stop it opening at all.

It can also make a maintenance window read-only with some scripts.

    @Angela Harris

The GPPT Portal does have a link to where you can download from https://www.winthropdc.com/products_GPPT.htm#Downloads

You can install it and activate a free 30 day trial period to play with it.

You will probably need a little bit of coding done to achieve what you want. Please contact support at winthropdc dot com to discuss what is needed.
