We need a Point of Sale (POS) system and to learn what GP is capable of in this area

I have recently realized Point of Sale/POS system, is a very broad term. After doing some research I realize I'm not sure what GP is capable of and what to expect from a POS system. Can someone help shed some light on both for me? Your experience and suggestions are appreciated.

We have a small business in a remote location that has a sign in sheet (yes, on paper) where transaction data is mostly recorded. That data is deciphered and typed up in an Excel spreadsheet at the remote location every few days to weekly, tied out to deposits as much as possible then forwarded to corporate. Once at corporate, some more spreadsheet changes are made then imported into an in-house built system. The in-house system uses some data from GP to prepare invoice and GL transactions. This system integrates with GP. Cash and check deposits are made, invoices mailed out. It's a very loose and work intensive process. Below are some high level requirements for a POS system.

    • Maintain customer data with preferred pricing by customer or group of customers
    • Maintain product and pricing detail (no need for inventory on-hand tracking)
    • Ability to change price on-demand
    • Capture customer sales transaction detail (product, qty, price, payment type)
    • Add new customer at point of sale transaction
    • Customers pay cash, check and others are invoiced (would like to add Credit Card and digital deposit of checks would be a plus)
    • Mobile devices to capture transaction detail, option for signature, and ability to print and email receipts
    • Preferably, daily transaction roll up by customer
    • Multiple locations (2 – remote, 1 corporate)
    • Electronic invoicing options would be worth learning about

We are currently on GP 2015 with plans to upgrade to GP 2018 R2 or newer later this year. What can/should we do in GP vs. 3rd party system? Is there any chance we'll find a vendor to help with all of this? Vendor responses are welcome.

    Thank you for your time,

    Hi Angela,

I suggest you check out SalesPad's offerings.

Completely integrated with your GP and has capabilities for mobile devices.

    Hi @Angela Morehouse,
Microsoft used to have their own POS product which was called RMS (Retail Management System) using GP as back-end.. but it was discontinued many years ago.
From various community Forums and fellow blogger Tim Wappat, I found this :

Compass Technology seems to come up quite often and also know that SalesPad is pretty good as a front-end GUI for counter sales.
Finally, RetailEdge looks like a very versatile product that is updated frequently, which is a good sign of continuous development.

I'm sure there are possibly more POS software out there that will interconnect with GP, but that's a starter for now.
For more options, you may want to look into the Partner Channel's List of software solutions:
    Hope this helps,

PS: Centerprism is a relatively new player on the market with GP, but they do have a POS offer too
