Sales Order Processing

We are using Customer Class currently to drive account distributions for sales.  We would prefer to use a combination of Item or Item Class and Customer Class to drive the distributions.  Is there a way to do that in GP2013R? Is there a feature in a newer version of GP that would accomplish this? Is there a plug and play solution from one of the partner companies?

    Hi Tim,

In Sales Order Processing, you can choose whether the GL distributions are taken from the Customer or the Item. It's either one or the other for the entire GP company. This is changed on the Sales Order Processing Setup window. (Tools > Setup > Sales > Sales Order Processing)

For more information about SOP GL distributions please see my blog post here:
Sales Transaction Entry GL distributions in Dynamics GP

Also, a few notes that might be helpful:
    • If you change the setup to use Item instead of customer GL accounts, no existing SOP transactions will be updated automatically. You will have to manually update any existing transactions.
    • Just a small misconception to clear up - Dynamics GP never looks at the class setup for any GL accounts on transactions. Customer class, item class, vendor class, does not matter. To determine the GL distributions for transactions Dynamics GP looks at the customer/item/vendor record first, then at  the Company Posting Accounts setup. Never at the class. The class does determine the defaults for when new customers/items/vendors are created, so it is important in that way.

I recommend taking a look at eOne's Flexicoder.  Great product.  Quite sure it will handle your situation.

    Second @Victoria Yudin.
We do utilize the customer classes for "grouping" and easier setups, same with our item classes.
Definitely check how your sales processing is configured as to how it pulls your distributions.
There is no definite way to drive your distributions solely from classes, but they do help streamline the process.

We created an add on that 'marries' the Customer Class and Item Class and allows you to enter the SOP GL Accounts for that combination. Any account left blank will follow the standard GP rule (either customer or item, based on your SOP setting). Does that sound like it would work? Email me at and I will send you more information.
