Adding a default value to a field in Payables Transaction Entry window

  • 1.  Adding a default value to a field in Payables Transaction Entry window

We'd like to add a default value of 'NN' to our P.O. Number field in the Payables Transaction Entry in Great Plains

Purchasing would like it to fill in by default that can edited if needed afterwards.

Is it possible to add a default value to a Great Plains window and how is it done?

    thanks

You will need to use some code to do this.

It is possible with VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) but as this is End of Life and no longer supported, I would suggest using GP Power Tools.

    Hi James,

I agree with David, in that GP Power Tools would be the best solution. Having used the product for a short while, I could add that functionality you want in a few minutes. And the product has so many great features, it is well worth the cost. Not only in developing customizations, but also in many other abilities. We use it to find and resolve user security issues, and to resolve other GP errors. The inactivity logoffs and the way you can assign a different color to each company, or to the test companies so that users don't enter transactions to the wrong entity.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi,
Since P.O Number field is not a required field and Vouchers could be saved without it so you could add a trigger on PM10000 table to save value NN for new records creation.
If you don't like to have trigger on DB side then you can still use dexterity and VSTools for this very small customization, with more validations like for existing vouchers if PO Number already exists then do not default it to NN and if empty then place NN as a default value.

And if your requirement is just to have NN from now on for new records then you can use this simple VSTools dll.

    Hey Dexterity Developer.

Download and activate the free 30 day trial GP Power Tools. It is much faster and simpler for these sorts of customisations.
