  • 1.  Image link vs doc attach within GP

    Posted Jul 25, 2019 12:35 PM
We currently use Image Link - and I'm trying to understand why (I'm the new GP admin)

I see that someone scans all the documents and then a GP user has to attach each scanned document to the vendor

What is the difference between using the doc attach functionality already within GP vs paying for Image Link?
    Pro's?  Cons?

It depends on the functionality you're looking for.  If you want the images to pop up AUTOMATICALLY whenever you go to a transaction screen then the DMS systems are much better.  I know Altec DocLink has this as well, I've never worked with ImageLink before.

The Doc attach in GP is free, and very useful, but you have to look for the paper clip to know whether there is an attachment and then click on it to view the attachment, with most DMS out there they will automatically pop up i.e. when in the journal entry inquiry window it would pop up the supporting attachment when you zoom in on the JE.

    Hi @Deanne Rasmussen,
I know this is quite old, but I've come across a few frustrated customers with the GP Doc Attach feature, apparently not understanding all the implications of starting to use that feature..
I've posted a product suggestion here to get the feature enhanced by what I'd call essential functions.. let's hope Microsoft will consider it in a future GP release.
