    We use Excel for budgeting, and we are looking for better tool. Any recommendations? Why do you like what you're using?

    I would consider DeFacto Global BI Solutions (deFacto Global | Business Management Software | Corporate Performance Management | CPM) or BI360 from Solver (Comparison of Budgeting Tools for Dynamics GP). Both are strong products that offer great solutions for budgeting and they both offer some BI level reporting opportunities.

    Hi,

    After researching a number of different applications a few years ago we chose PROPHIX - has the Excel look and feel for the end user but is really locked down.  Extremely happy.  Uses workflow to track budget entry. We have data connectors to GP payables which allosw us to drill down to GP and compare actuals to budget for variance reconciliation.  Vendor is very reliable.

    Hello,

    We also looked at a number of packages and settled on Prophix.  It is a very complete solution from budgeting to financial reporting to consolidations/currency conversion to dashboards.  Budgeting includes a detail planning module for things like budgeting at the employee or fixed asset level.  The flexibility and breadth of features stood out.  Some of the features, such as off-line data entry in Excel and report binders which will generate and distribute a group of reports in a single pdf package, can help make the pricing very attractive.  Others, such as alternate hierarchies and unique combinations, provide the flexibility to view the data the way you want it.

    I'd suggest looking at Solver BI360 --- can be used for both reporting and budgeting.  If you are looking for a true "cash" based budgeting, Centage Budget Maestro is the best I've seen for that.

    I would also look into Dynamic Budgets created by GPUG All Star Zubin Gidwani.  We aren't using this yet, but will likely be making the move from Forecaster/Excel to Dynamic Budgets next year.  I would NOT recommend Forecaster.  We knew support was ending for Forecaster, but thought it would be worth it anyway because it was included with GP.  Too many things (particularly some allocation formulas) don't "roll over" from one year to the next and have to be recreated or copied.

    There are many different types of budgeting apps available on the market today, so it is important to do some research before deciding which one is right for you. Some people prefer simple apps that allow them to input their income and expenses manually, while others may want more advanced features like syncing with their bank accounts or tracking their investments automatically.
