Business Portal shared Admin rights

    Hello All,

I hope someone can help with this question from my HR Mgr.

I am not sure if you will be able to assist me.  But my HR team needs to have the same administrative rights in Business Portal that I do, and I have set up their profiles in BP accordingly.  However, when they log in, they do not have the same view or admin rights.

I have attached screen shots for your reference.

Any thoughts on what I may be doing wrong?

    Hi John,

you're showing only one aspect of the BP security in your screen shots.. the back-end from the GP / BP security, but you have also to grant access on the SharePoint side of BP...

When you're in the Administration of the BP security (this is Under the Site Actions menu - Site Settings), you have the "Business Portal Administration" settings (Users, Roles, Data permissions, etc..), but you need also to go into the section "Users and Permissions" which is the SharePoint side.

There Under "People & Groups" you should find some standard BP security roles for SharePoint out of the box.. or you could use the sync utility that Microsoft has built to map automatically the back-end security roles with the SP security roles..

Either way, you need to make sure your HR users are assigned at  least to BP Employee and BP HR Administrator. If you use the HRM Self-Service portal, add them to the BP HRM Self-Service Admin role too.

    Hope this helps.

PS: as a rule of thumb, it's not a good idea if you have multiple GP companies to assign the users to back-end roles by giving them access to 'All Companies'... that could lead to some unwanted access rights if you create new companies in GP and don't remember to check back your BP security. You better control that with invidual company access...

    Hey Beat,

Thanks for the information.  After having done that there is another error message that comes up when she is trying to go to  "users" under Site settings>BP Admin>Users the following error message comes up.

Any thoughts... she needs to be able to set up new users in BP.

    Thanks Again

    Hi John,

So what your other user is trying to do is setup new employees in the BP ? this requires some additional permissions on the SharePoint and GP / SQL back-end side that she probably doesn't have...

It is probably a good idea to be a 'Site Collection Administrator' in SharePoint, and then also on the SQL server side you need to validate that the BPUser ID that was initially configured to setup BP has the right permissions to access the DYNAMICS Database and every GP company Databases by granting that user the role BFGROUP and DYNGRP.

Looking at your message below sounds more an issue with SharePoint and/or the BP setup than a user permissions... but I could be wrong.. never seen that type of message.

Check the Windows Event Log on the IIS server where BP is setup.. maybe you will get some hints.
